Este texto discute a (re)produção de Copacabana, reconhecida no imaginário carioca como “cartão-postal” do Rio de Janeiro, em um contexto de violência urbana e informalidade capaz de atualizar as disputas por territórios e fronteiras da cidade. A partir da análise de reuniões do Conselho Comunitário de Segurança de Copacabana e Leme (CCSCL) e dos discursos e representações de camadas médias moradoras desse bairro a respeito do atual conflito urbano, é possível perceber que os termos de distinção de Copacabana são postos em xeque por meio de diferentes concepções de segurança e de novas formas de se fazer políticas perpassadas pelo medo da favelização.
Los sectores dominantes de la sociedad describen las favelas a partir de definiciones negativas a priori, que han sido cuestionadas por diversos actores colectivos. A partir de una iniciativa conjunta de la comunidad académica y quienes residen en las favelas, se crea el Diccionario de Favelas Marielle Franco como una plataforma en línea que, a través de la construcción colectiva del conocimiento, busca difundir diferentes narrativas sobre estos territorios y sus poblaciones. En este artículo, discutimos cómo se produjeron los acuerdos y divergencias entre el conocimiento de la comunidad académica, activistas y habitantes de barrios marginalizados; y presentamos la trayectoria de la construcción del Diccionario, que busca superar tensiones y así incorporar otros lenguajes y registros capaces de sustentar las producciones y memorias de las favelas.
A grave crise sanitária, econômica e humanitária provocada pela pandemia de Covid-19 no Brasil, e as ações (e omissões) governamentais, levaram ao aprofundamento de desigualdades estruturais, atingindo ainda mais as populações já vulnerabilizadas, como moradores(as) de favelas e periferias. Neste trabalho, questionamos o enquadramento dado à pandemia e à favela em 2020, a partir da análise de diferentes discursos reproduzidos pela mídia comercial e pela mídia comunitária e coletados pelo Dicionário de Favelas Marielle Franco na seção “Coronavírus nas Favelas”. Por meio da análise de discurso e seu processo interativo, nosso objetivo é acompanhar o envolvimento de diferentes atores na construção de políticas e de subjetividades, problematizando a arena política – e a própria política – nas favelas e periferias durante a pandemia.
O presente ensaio visa apresentar as principais contribuições das obras do professor e pesquisador Luiz Antonio Machado da Silva para a Sociologia e a Antropologia, dando destaque à sua elaboração sobre o mundo popular urbano e as questões de primeira ordem colocadas pelo autor acerca deste universo. Com um arcabouço investigativo multifocal, buscamos demonstrar como o autor se debruça sobre o cotidiano e a vida nas cidades. Temas como mercado, trabalho, moradia e violência são destrinchados de forma profunda ao longo de sua carreira acadêmica, que perpassa gerações. No ano de celebração dos cinquenta anos do Instituto de Estudos Sociais e Políticos, retomamos suas contribuições como professor e pesquisador do IUPERJ ao IESP-UERJ. Os trabalhos de pesquisa, orientação e circulação de conhecimento, realizados por Machado, apresentam relevância e oxigenação, em um fluxo contínuo de produção que acompanha as transformações e a complexidade do fenômeno urbano e suas dinâmicas.
Este artigo pretende abordar uma das preocupações mais latentes da sociedade carioca atual: a questão da violência urbana e o “problema da segurança pública”. A noção de violência urbana, aqui, não diz respeito, porém, a eventos violentos isolados ou ao percentual de atos criminosos em determinadas camadas da sociedade e/ou regiões da cidade, mas sim à sua articulação com a ordem social, como referência de modelos de conduta construídos simbolicamente no convívio social cotidiano. No contexto atual de agenda da política de segurança pública, por exemplo, após uma década de atuação, a lógica do modelo de pacificação, implementado na cidade do Rio de Janeiro desde 2008, e todo o aparato de dispositivos, técnicas e discursos que o legitimou, passa a sofrer desmantelamentos, abrindo espaço para novos problemas de segurança e novos reordenamentos de políticas em disputa na cidade. Para tanto, analisa-se a organização das camadas médias da zona sul do Rio de Janeiro em relação às suas redes de programas, projetos e políticas de segurança no período atual, a partir do acompanhamento dos Conselhos Comunitários de Segurança, e as representações coletivas a respeito da violência urbana e das políticas de segurança em suas redes de mercado e interesses em um novo projeto de militarização (e securitização) da cidade.
