L’évolution du métier et des effectifs conduit à une adaptabilité plus grande de ce professionnel qui n’augmente pas pour autant son prestige et particulièrement sa rémunération. Il recrute lorsque le marché de l’emploi est florissant, il aide à l’insertion professionnelle quand le paysage économique et social devient morose. À l’ambiguïté historique de la fonction s’ajoute celle du statut où le psychologue est embauché moins pour ce qu’il est que pour ce qu’il fait, par une logique de la compétence. Son approche devient plus clinique ainsi que ses références théoriques.
À partir de l’expérience d’une soumission d’article à une revue dont l’éditeur vante le ranking , la description de la procédure montre le fonctionnement de ces revues prédatrices, encouragées à se développer dans la mesure où les universitaires s’asservissent aux indicateurs bibliométriques, que les éditeurs tentent de faire passer comme normes de qualité, à des fins commerciales. Cette logique va à l’encontre du travail de la pensée, pourtant nécessaire au développement d’une discipline comme la psychologie. Les conséquences sont lourdes pour les générations d’universitaires, elles commencent à poindre dans le fonctionnement des instances nationales de l’université.
