Das nach bekannten Methoden aus Dimethyl‐3,3‐tetramethylenglutarat dargestellte Hydroxyketon (I) wird mit Na‐borhydrid zum entsprechenden trans‐Diol reduziert, dessen Spaltung mit wäßrigem Na‐metaperjodat den Glutaraldehyd (II) liefert.
Aus den 1,2‐Diolen (I) entstehen mit Periodat die Dialdehyde (II), die bei einer Behandlung mit Ammoniak und anschließend mit Chlorkohlensäureester zu den Reaktionsprodukten (III)‐(V) führen.
