Results suggest that shedding of parvovirus and paramyxovirus is strongly associated with acute haemorrhagic diarrhoea. However, coronavirus seems to be even more prevalent among healthy dogs, raising the need for further studies to investigate the strain-associated pathogenicity of this virus.
Zusammenfassung Gegenstand und Ziel: Die Studie untersuchte, welche enteralen Viren bei Hunden mit akutem blutigem Durchfall nachgewiesen werden können, und verglich Signalement, klinische und labordiagnostische Parameter zwischen den verschiedenen viruspositiven Tieren sowie den Hunden mit negativem Befund bei der virologischen Kotuntersuchung. Material und Methode: Kotproben von 935 Hunden mit akutem blutigem Durchfall wurden elektronenmikroskopisch untersucht und klinische sowie labordiagnostische Parameter retrospektiv evaluiert. Ergebnisse: Bei 44,2% der Hunde konnten Viren im Kot nachgewiesen werden. Die häufigste Infektion mit einem enteralen Virus wurde für Parvoviren ermittelt (19,9%), gefolgt von Coronaviren (17,3%) und Paramyxoviren (13,9%). In 6,5% der Kotproben wurden zwei oder drei Virusspezies nachgewiesen. Virusausscheidende Hunde waren signi fikant jünger als Hunde ohne Virusnachweis. Bei den viruspositiven Tieren wiederum lag das Alter der Hunde mit einer Parvovirusinfektion signifikant niedriger als das Alter der Hunde, bei denen andere Viren nachgewiesen wurden. Parvovirusinfizierte Hunde zeigten zudem signifikant niedrigere Werte für Leukozyten, Erythrozyten, Hämatokrit, Gesamteiweiß und Albumin. Keine signifikanten Unterschiede zwischen den einzelnen Gruppen ergaben sich für die klinischen Parameter sowie für Geschlecht, Kotbeschaffenheit oder das gleichzeitige Auftreten von Erbrechen. Schlussfolgerung: Ein jüngeres Alter ist häufiger mit einer enteralen Virusinfektion assoziiert. Klinische Relevanz: Anhand der klinischen Präsentation lassen sich keine Rückschlüsse auf die Ätiologie des blutigen Durch-falls ziehen. Typische labordiagnostische Veränderungen können jedoch hinweisend auf eine Parvovirusinfektion sein. Eine virologische Kotuntersuchung sollte somit immer durchgeführt werden.
