Kunnskapsbasert praksis har blitt kritisert for å fremme et smalt syn på kunnskap og virke instrumentell i sin tilnærming. I prosjektet Ungdom i svevet samarbeidet forskere med sårbare ungdommer og deres profesjonelle hjelpere om profesjonell tjenesteutvikling og forskning. Gjennom et tverrfaglig aksjonsforskningsprosjekt oppstod en arbeidsform som ligner å kunnskapsbasert praksis. Basert på en beskrivelse av arbeidsformen, her kalt for kunnskapsreflektert praksis, undersøker artikkelen om erfaringen fra prosjektet kan bidra med utfyllende kunnskap om hvordan man kan lykkes med integrering av ulike kunnskapskilder og kunnskapsformer i kunnskapsbasert praksis.
I dette vitenskapelige essayet synliggjøres trøstens betydning i mellommenneskelige profesjonelle praksiser. Forfatterne viser gjennom to adskilte forskningsprosjekter i to ulike fagfelt, betydningen av å ha et sansene oppmerksomt nærvær i møte med mennesker som erfarer at livet er krevende eller truet grunnet sykdom eller andre eksistensielle grunnvilkår. I essayet er det trøstens fremtredelser i fagfolks møte med mennesker i sårbare livssituasjoner vi har viet oppmerksomhet mot, og da gjennom fortellinger fra vår forskning. I dialog med humanistisk praksisfilosofi, synliggjør vi trøst som betydningsfullt i profesjonelles møter med den andre, og skriver frem en forståelse av hva trøst kan handle om: Å dele livets smerte og Å (an)erkjenne livets strev. Essayet viser hva som kan være i og på spill i sårbare situasjoner mellom den som behøver trøst og den som trøster. Dette er kritiske øyeblikk der handlingsvalg vil ha betydning for om den andre erfarer seg sett, anerkjent og ivaretatt.
