Propõe-se a uma aproximação inicial da relação entre performance e memória traumática e suas implicações para a narrativa documentária em primeira pessoa (autobiográfica). Entende performance como um comportamento expressivo capaz de transmitir a memória e a identidade cultural, a partir da valorização tanto do repertório quanto do arquivo, como proposto por Diana Taylor (2013). Neste tipo de cinema o testemunho é da ordem da performance, de uma performance afetiva do documentarista. O teor testemunhal destes documentários se reveste de um potencial afeccional, em que o cineasta que narra é também afetado pela narração do trauma/passado.
Ao pensar o documentário como “mídia de memória”, reconhecemos o afeto, o símbolo e o trauma como estabilizadores da recordação neste tipo de cinema que, a partir da década de 1960, interessou-se não mais apenas pelos vestígios, mas também pelas testemunhas. O testemunho oral ascendeu como principal dispositivo do documentário para acessar as memórias coletivas. Se na contemporaneidade presenciamos uma “cultura da memória”, o documentário tem um lugar nesta história, mais como uma atividade “artesanal da memória”, ao preservar/armazenar uma memória experiencial do vivido, do que como uma ameaça ao passado recordado.
Este artigo é fruto de dissertação desenvolvida no Curso de Mestrado do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Comunicação da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM). Realizou-se um mapeamento de documentários com personagens lésbicas, gays, bissexuais, travestis e transexuais produzidos na região Sul do Brasil entre 2000 e 2014. A pesquisa objetivou analisar as representações LGBT, buscando compreender em que medida estes filmes partilham de narrativas/estéticas queer. Pôde-se observar que os 19 documentários analisados exploram as seguintes temáticas: memória/história, geração e envelhecimento, discriminações e resistências e, por fim, espaços de sociabilidades. Há um conjunto de documentários empenhados na incorporação política do outro-abjeto em uma cidadania generificada, sexuada e heteronormativa. De outro lado, existe um grupo de documentários experimentais (performáticos, poéticos e reflexivos) dispostos a quebrar com as inteligibilidades e normatividades culturais de sexo/gênero.

Estudo sobre como a Divisão de Censura e Diversões Públicas (DCDP) tratou o documentário brasileiro produzido nos anos de 1960/70 e 1980. Ao analisar os pareceres de censura de 23 filmes – documentos disponíveis no site do projeto Memória da censura no cinema brasileiro 1964-1988 – optou-se por estudar os casos de O país de São Saruê e Iracema, uma transa amazônica. Nas décadas de 1960/70 presenciamos o surgimento de um novo documentarismo que buscava retratar o “Brasil profundo”, o país das desigualdades que tanto se conflitava com a imagem desenvolvimentista que a propaganda da ditadura difundia. Ao analisar a censura a estes filmes constatou-se que as dinâmicas censórias se valeram tanto de questões morais quanto de posicionamentos políticos-ideológicos.
