This paper describes the use of a Sensory Visualization strategy to engage secondary pre-service teachers in a writing activity integrating current or historical events through the modality of the senses. Students write papers from the viewpoint of a person in an event after viewing a photograph or illustration of the event.
The purpose of this research was to compare the reading processing strategies of gifted readers with those of average readers. A random sampling, stratified by sex and grade level, was taken from a population of 300 eighth-, tenth-, and twelfth-grade students. Subjects included 30 females and 30 males. Fourteen reading processing strategies were identified using think-aloud protocols as a measuring instrument. The strategies used significantly more by gifted than by average readers were rereading, inferring, anatyzing structure, watching or predicting, evaluating, and relating to content area. The strategies used significantly more by average than by gifted readers were word pronouncing concern and summarizing inaccurately.
Identifying Internet sites to coordinate with National Science Education Standards can be challenging for teachers and students. By identifying quality free Internet sites in science, teachers and students can use the extensive resources of the Internet to enhance learning and instruction while meeting National Science Education Content Standards for grades K-4 and 5-8. The authors have held tested over 140 sites which they have aligned by grade level, Standard, topic, site name, site address, and a brief description of the contents.
