-This work reports on the viability of the electroflocculation (EF) process for chemical oxygen demand (COD), turbidity and color removal from a raw effluent originated from a particular textile industry related to hemp manufacture. Firstly, the following operational parameters were optimized: current density; initial pH; electrolysis time; material of the electrode (iron, aluminum or iron-aluminum); and interelectrode distance. Additionally, the effects of these parameters on specific electrical energy consumption (SEEC) were studied under the optimum conditions. The best removal efficiencies obtained were 93% for color, 99% for turbidity and up to 87% for COD using an aluminum electrode, the initial pH was 5, the cell time operation was 30 min and current density was 15 A/m 2 . These results indicate that, under the studied operational conditions, electroflocculation of these efluents may constitute a viable alternative for COD, turbidity and color removal.

This work studied the potential use of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) in the decolorization of the following textile dyes: Drimarene Blue X-3LR (DMBLR), Drimarene Blue X-BLN (DMBBLN), Drimarene Rubinol X-3LR (DMR), and Drimarene Blue CL-R (RBBR). Dyes were individually tested in the reaction media containing 120 mg·L−1, considering the following parameters: temperature (20–45°C), H2O2 concentration (0–4.44 mmol·L−1), and reaction time (5 minutes, 1 and 24 h). The following conditions: 35°C, 0.55 mmol·L−1, and 1h, provided the best set of results of color removal for DMBLR (99%), DMBBLN (77%), DMR (94%), and RBBR (97%). It should be mentioned that only 5 minutes of reaction was enough to obtain 96% of decolorization for DMBLR and RBBR. After the decolorization reactions of DMBLR, DMR, and RBBR, it was possible to observe the reduction of Artemia salina mortality and the no significant increase in toxicity for the products generated from DMBBLN.

RESUMOO presente trabalho discute a aplicação da eletrofloculação utilizando corrente alternada, nos moldes da nova política ambiental brasileira no que se refere à atenção que deve ser dada ao manejo da água produzida, um dos principais resíduos gerados durante o processo de exploração e produção na indústria do petróleo, cujo volume vem aumentando gradativamente, à medida que os poços vão envelhecendo e novos são perfurados. É discutido o enquadramento na legislação ambiental do lançamento da água de produção em corpos receptores, em razão do surgimento de novas Leis e Resoluções ambientais, visando a sua minimização e melhoria da qualidade nos campos petrolíferos. O exame dessa modalidade de exploração industrial dos recursos naturais, especialmente em plataformas off-shore, exige a integração de política ambiental específica, incluindo-se as Resoluções do Conselho Nacional de Meio Ambiente (Conama), que estabelecem limites para a emissão de efluentes oleosos. Para adequarse aos padrões estabelecidos pelo Conama, é necessário o aprimoramento ou o desenvolvimento de novas tecnologias. Neste sentido a eletrofloculação vem a contribuir para a adequação dos efluentes de água de produção. Treatment of industrial wastewater has grown in the last years and industries have been continuously searching improvements in the treatment`s processes based on CONAMA 357/2005 resolution. In this context, the electroflocculation may be a promising alternative due to its economic and environmental benefits, allowing water reuse. This work aims to study the treatment of oil production water by electroflocculation process, with aluminum electrode, in a batch reactor. The study focused on removal of OG, color, turbidity and boron. The results indicate that the process of electroflocculation is a technically viable alternative for removal of OG, color and turbidity, obtaining average removals of 84%, 83% and 83%, respectively. However, it wasn’t efficient to remove boron.
