Compared with Perkins tonometry, the ICare tonometer allows clinicians to estimate IOP with a portable, rapid, and noninvasive method with similar reliability to that offered by Tono-Pen XL. Clinicians should be aware of the systematic overestimation of IOP with the ICare. Further research is needed to evaluate the performance of rebound tonometry in populations with higher IOP and assess the reliability of this technique in the early detection and follow up of glaucomatous patients.
Tear film BUT was not influenced by the time of day and moderate to strong correlation with MBI was observed in all four sessions. The software-assisted method proved useful and identified the need to clarify the BUT end-point and to limit the test to 15 seconds to improve observer repeatability.
Careful instillation of fluorescein does not affect normal TMH values. Fluorescein is washed out from the lower tear meniscus 5 min after instillation. Higher values of the TMH can be found at nasal and temporal locations compared to the center of the lower eye lid.
Corneal volume is a useful parameter for characterising dystrophic corneas and can aid in the detection of rare anomalies which are hardly detected with corneal topography and/or central corneal thickness evaluation. A potentially useful measure of corneal volume can be calculated from anterior corneal topography and topographic pachymetry data. Values obtained are in good agreement with previous studies using corneal tomography techniques. The methodology has been shown to have potential for retrospective analysis of data, or where no access is available to tomographical techniques.
There was a good agreement between Canon TX-10 and GAT in healthy subjects. From the results obtained here, CCT appears to not affect IOP measurements when CCT is thinner than 570 microm.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
