In this paper, we analyze and discuss the possibility of Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy being accepted as a primary and definitive procedure for obese patients with comorbidities. This is based on our postoperative and 5 years of follow-up result and comparing them with the data reported in the international literature. For comparison of the results, a narrative revision of the literature was performed, using the Medline, Pubmed, and data base publications (Medline, Lilacs, and Cochrane Library), looking for the term "Sleeve gastrectomy," "Obesity," "Bariatric surgery," "Laparoscopic surgery" including "Review" articles and also other 42 selected papers. The current results demonstrate very low morbidity (<10%), nil mortality (<1%), mean % weight loss after 5 years of follow-up of 57%, very satisfactory results regarding comorbidities or improvement. However, gastroesophageal reflux manifestation after the operation (20% to 31%) and the possibility of regaining weight after 5 years (15% to 75%) appear as points for analysis.
The presence of free living Amoebae (FLA) was studied in samples of water obtained from 8 public swimming pool, collected from surface, bottom, channels, and filter. 8 samples for swimming pool, 64 samples in total. Amoebae were found in 5 swimming pool (62%). In 22 of the samples the Amoebae genus were identified (34.5%). These were Hartmanella vermiformes (12.5%); Vanella sp. (9.4%); Naegleria (7.8) and Acanthamoeba (4.7%).Considering the pathogenic capacity to man, the 36.4% of the isolated strains belonged to those that have been proved dangerous (Naegleria and Acanthamoeba). In summary, this study recomend to be any maintenance more prolix of public swiming pool from Santiago, included filtration sytems or water recirculation, die who clinical aspects to be promote these FLA are reality severes arrived inclusive to death .
Subtotal gastrectomy for poorly differentiated and undifferentiated antral gastric cáncer Background: Total gastrectomy is recommended by some groups for poorly differentiated gastric cancer due to the multicentric nature of this tumor. Aim: To assess if subtotal gastrectomy achieves a good disease control in patients with undifferentiated or poorly differentiated gastric cancer. Material and Methods: Retrospective review of medical records of patients with undifferentiated or poorly differentiated gastric cancer, subjected to a subtotal gastrectomy between 1988 and 2006. Five years survival was calculated. Results: Fifty two patients aged 23 to 80 years were identifi ed (30 males). Three had undifferentiated and 49 poorly differentiated tumors. One patient had a positive proximal margin. After a median follow up of 52 months, fi ve years survival was 47%. Thirteen percent were lost from follow up. Conclusions: Five years survival of patients with undifferentiated or poorly differentiated gastric cancer and subjected to subtotal gastrectomy, was 47%.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
