bromatologic variation of the milk produced by lamancha goats fed with different forages. The objective of this experiment was to determine the effect of three forages: black sorghum (Sorghum almum), mulberry (Morus alba), and african star grass (Cynodom nlemfuensis), on the quantity and quality of goat milk. The experiment was carry out at the alfredo Volio mata experiment station of the University of costa rica located at 1542 masl, during the last trimester of 2007 on three groups of Lamancha goats. a repeated Latin square model was used. The highest milk yield was obtained when animals consumed african star grass (1.06 kg of milk/animal/day) (p<0.01) followed by mulberry (0.89 kg of milk/animal/day) and Black sorghum (0.73 kg of milk/animal/day); nevertheless, fat percentage, protein, casein, total solids and non fatty solids were improved when goats were fed with mulberry (p<0.01), and the lowest parameters were obtained with african star grass.
The kinetics of ruminal degradation of dry matter, crude protein, ether extract and neutral detergent fiber was measured at four mulberry re-growth ages: 70, 84, 98 and 112 days. Each category showed characteristics corresponding to the age, not only in the soluble fraction, but also in the rate of ruminal degradability of the potentially degradable fraction. Based on the results of degradation after 48 hours of ruminal incubation, the true digestible contents of the protein and the digested ether extract and the neutral detergent fiber were determined biologically. The measurement of total digestible nutrients, and of the concentration and net rate of digestible energy were conducted as well. The concentrations of total digestible nutrients were 56% at 70 days re-growth, and 52-53 at the following ages, with a digestible energy equivalent to 2.57, 2.45, 2.39 and 2,34 Mcals/kg dry matter in the whole plant. Net energy for milk production was 1.22, 1.14, 1.09 and 1.06 Mcal/kg in the whole plant, for 70, 84, 98 and 112 days of re-growth, respectively. The fraction of soluble protein (A) was 37.5% at 70 days, 34-35% at subsequent ages, with a degradable fraction (B) of 58.9, 59.4, 60.7 and 61.9% at 70, 84, 98 and 112 re-growth days, along with an insoluble fraction (C) of 3.6, 4.8, 4.1 and 3.5% respectively. The 48 hours degraded protein in the rumen was of 90...
ABsTRACTYield and quality of mulberry (Morus alba) fertilized with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. The objective of this work was to determine the effect of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium applied to the soil, on yield and bromatological quality of mulberry. The experiment was conducted in costa rica at 1542 masl, in a mulberry plantation with a population of 25000 plants/ha established in 2002. The plants were homogenized by prunning at 60 cm above the soil surface and 84 days after were harvested for the evaluation. The annual mulberry dry matter yield showed important differences between applied levels of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (p<0.05). The highest concentration of dry matter was observed with 112.5 kg of n/ha/year, 30 kg of P/ha/year and 225 kg K/ha/year. The highest percentage of crude protein was obtained with 112.5 kg of n/ha/year but with similar results (p>0.05) were observed when different amounts of phosphorus and potassium were applied. The concentration of neutral detergent fiber was affected (p<0.05) when the levels of nitrogen were increased and considerable variations were observed with addition of phosphorus and potassium. The different levels of nPK did not show important effects on acid detergent fiber; however, as the nitrogen levels increased the hemicelulose decreased (p<0.05), and the cellulose augmented with high levels of ni...
