Este estudo teve por objetivo investigar a relação entre a diversificação das receitas dos bancos brasileiros e sua relação com o risco de insolvência. A amostra foi composta por bancos de capital aberto ou não no período de 1996 a 2013. Os resultados indicam que a diversificação das receitas dos bancos, medida pelo Índice Herfindahl-Hirschman e pelo número de setores nos quais cada instituição opera não influenciou o risco de insolvência dos bancos, medido pelo Z-score. Evidências indicam que o crescimento dos ativos aumenta o risco de insolvência, enquanto que o tamanho e a capitalização estão negativamente relacionados. O Z-score também foi considerado sensível a fatores como o crescimento do Produto Interno Bruto e a concorrência, onde o crescimento econômico sinaliza um menor risco, enquanto que a concorrência aumenta o risco individual destas instituições.
O ambiente regulatório das companhias abertas e fechadas apresenta diferenças significativas na qualidade das informações contábeis entre as companhias abertas e fechadas (BALL; SHIVAKUMAR, 2005). Entretanto, a literatura tem sugerido que o processo de mensuração contábil das instituições financeiras se diferenciam substancialmente das demais companhias (PEASNELL et al, 2000). Apesar disso, os estudos anteriores não analisam sistematicamente as diferenças informacionais entre as instituições financeiras abertas e fechadas. O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar o comportamento dos níveis de conservadorismo e de persistência dos resultados contábeis das instituições financeiras abertas e fechadas brasileiras. Para atender ao objetivo deste trabalho, foi efetuado uma análise dos dados com base nos modelos de conservadorismo proposto por Ball e Shivakumar (2005) e de persistência descrito por Dechow e Schrand (2004), estimados por meio de dados em painel. A amostra foi composta pelas instituições financeiras brasileiras abertas e fechadas no período compreendido entre 1996 e 2013. Os resultados desta pesquisa identificaram que nenhum dos tipos de instituições financeiras (abertas e fechadas) apresenta reconhecimento oportuno das perdas ocorridas no período analisado. Em relação à persistência dos resultados contábeis, as análises apontaram que as instituições financeiras fechadas apresentam maior persistência em seus resultados contábeis que as instituições abertas, resultando em maior previsibilidade dos lucros futuros pelos lucros presentes. Por fim, conclui-se que os resultados contábeis das instituições financeiras brasileiras não apresentam comportamento conservador, além disso, os lucros das companhias fechadas são mais persistentes do que os das companhias abertas.
RESUMO:O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar se o potencial impacto ambiental das atividades empresariais, conforme classificado na Lei nº 10.165/2000, influencia nos custos ambientais incorridos pelas companhias brasileiras no período de 2009 a 2013. Os custos ambientais das companhias foram coletados nos relatórios GRI apresentados pelas empresas. Para a análise dos dados foram utilizadas regressões lineares múltiplas para se inferir a respeito do montante de custos ambientais incorridos pelas empresas em relação ao seu potencial nível de impacto ao meio ambiente. Para o cálculo dos custos ambientais incorridos pelas empresas foi utilizado o indicador EN31 de acordo com o padrão do Global Reporting Initiative onde são evidenciados os montantes referentes aos custos ambientais incorridos pelas empresas no período, sendo utilizados apenas aqueles identificados como OPEX (Operational Expenditures). Os resultados obtidos não são conclusivos sobre a influência do nível potencial de impacto ambiental na determinação dos custos ambientais incorridos pelas empresas no período estudado. Desconsiderando alguns pressupostos do modelo de regressão linear dos mínimos quadrados ordinários (MQO) pôde-se inferir que o nível potencial de poluição de acordo com a atividade não influi nos gastos dispendidos pelas empresas para minimizar seu impacto sobre o meio ambiente. Adicionalmente, o tamanho da empresa apresenta relação negativa com os custos ambientais incorridos, o que indica que quanto maior a empresa, menor o valor dos gastos que esta tem com o meio ambiente.

A segregação entre a propriedade e o controle existente nas corporações tem ressaltado o papel do Conselho de Administração, responsável por eleger, destituir, monitorar e avaliar as ações da equipe de gestão, cujo principal agente é o Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Nesse contexto, este trabalho analisou a influência da estrutura do Conselho de Administração e do Controle Corporativo no turnover do CEO das empresas abertas no Brasil. A amostra reuniu 111 empresas integrantes do índice IBrX100 da Bolsa, Brasil, Balcão (B3) entre os anos de 2009 a 2013. Utilizando regressões logísticas, observamos evidências de que as chances de ocorrência de turnover do CEO aumentaram quando a empresa apresentou baixo retorno acionário e/ou lucratividade. A independência do Conselho não influenciou a sensibilidade do turnover do CEO ao desempenho. Outros resultados indicaram que a dualidade dos cargos de CEO e Chairman esteve negativamente relacionada ao turnover do CEO. Já a concentração acionária, levando em consideração as ações totais, diminuiu a sensibilidade do turnover do CEO ao desempenho.
