ObjectiveThe aim of this study is to examine performance-based measures and behavioral ratings of executive functions (EF) as a component of preschool attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).MethodsTwenty-one 4-to-6-year-old children with ADHD and 52 children with no psychopathology, matched on age, gender, socioeconomic status, and parental education, were enrolled. Parents were interviewed with the use of The Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School-Age Children Present and Lifetime version. The Conners' Kiddie Continuous Performance Test (K-CPT) was administered to the children, and the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function-Preschool version (BRIEF-P) and the Conners' Parent Rating Scale-Revised/Short Form (CPRS-R/S) were filled out by the parents.ResultsAll BRIEF-P and CPRS-R/S scores, the K-CPT measures of inattention and impulsivity were higher in the ADHD group. The CPRS-R/S ADHD index was strongly correlated with inhibition and related indexes in the BRIEF-P and was moderately correlated with inattention measures in the K-CPT.ConclusionThe current study is one of the few to investigate the features of preschool ADHD with the use of behavioral ratings of EF and a performance-based measure. Our results suggest that the BRIEF-P was able to identify behavioral difficulties in inhibition and working memory and that the K-CPT identified difficulties indicating inattention. The findings of this study support the use of a combination of methods for a complete evaluation of preschoolers with inattentive and hyperactive/impulsive behavior, the application of rating scales for screening ADHD symptoms, and the measurement of behavioral correlates of EF, along with performance-based measures.

The presented findings are unique in terms of their ability to clinically and physiologically differentiate between ADHD children with and without ED.

The purpose of this study was to predict lymphatic involvement in endometrial cancer using clinicopathologic variables of patients treated with surgical staging. Overall, 461 patients treated with an initial surgical staging procedure including complete pelvic–para-aortic lymphadenectomy were included. The mean number of resected lymph nodes was 27 (median 26; range 15–83), and 54 patients (12%) had lymphatic involvement. Of these patients, 32 had only pelvic, 15 had both pelvic and para-aortic, and 7 had isolated para-aortic metastases. In the multivariate analysis, deep myometrial invasion (P = 0.02), lymphvascular space invasion (P = 0.001), positive peritoneal cytology (P = 0.002), and cervical involvement (P = 0.003) predicted retroperitoneal lymph node metastasis (RLN) significantly. Two hundred seventy-four patients (59.4%) had at least one of these poor prognostic factors identified by multivariate analysis. In this patient population, 53 (19.3%) had lymphatic involvement compared to 1 patient in the group of 187 patients with low-risk criteria. Ninety-eight percent of patients with RLN were predicted by this model, and with the advent of accurate diagnostic techniques, 40% of patients could be saved from undergoing lymphadenectomy.

Aims: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a set of heterogeneous neurodevelopmental conditions, and genetics has a key role in the etiology, in connection with developmentally early environmental factors. These factors also affect the prevalence of congenital anomalies in children with ASD. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of genital anomalies in male patients with ASD in the Turkish population. Materials and Methods: Data of 524 children with ASD aged between 11 and 316 months were examined retrospectively. The diagnosis was mostly established by clinical expression and examination, rather than assessment using the formal tools. Results: Four hundred and thirty-two (82.4%) of the children were male and 92 (%17.6) were female. Only 19 of the 432 (4.4%) boys were diagnosed with a genital anomaly. Ten of the 19 patients (52%) was diagnosed with cryptorchidism, which was the most common genital anomaly in our study. Discussion and Conclusion: Despite having some limitations, this study is one of the few studies with a large population that investigate the comorbidity of genital anomalies in boys with ASD in the Turkish population, and showed that male genital anomalies had a high incidence in the sample included.

Factors affecting burden of psychopharmacological medication in patients with autism spectrum disorder: the importance of early diagnosis Objective: The aim of the present study is to specify the frequency in psychopharmacological medication use in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and determine their age range at diagnosis. Methods: Five hundred and twenty three children with ASD who applied to Dr. Sami Ulus Maternity and Children Research and Training Hospital between 2010 -2015 were reviewed retrospectively. Data has been obtained from computerized hospital information system. Individuals with the diagnosis of Autism (F84.0), Atypical Autism (F84.1) and Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Other Specified (F84.9) were screened.Results: Psychotropic medication was recommended to 28.5% of the 523 children and adolescents diagnosed with ASD. Antipsychotics were the most common drugs of choice among psychotropic medications. The mean age at diagnosis of patients taking psychotropic medication was significantly higher than that of the patients who were not taking psychotropic medication (t=-3.064; p<0.01). The rate of psychotropic drug usage in female patients was significantly high than male patients (χ²=6.675; p=0.01). Conclusion:The results of the present study suggest that the delay of diagnosis can be included as a factor for psychotropic medication need of patients with ASD. Nearly half of the patients have been diagnosed in the first three years of their life. For further benefits of studies in Turkey, evaluating the psychopharmacological drug prescription rate, age of diagnosis and related factors to determine the present situation of psychotropic medication in our country will be necessary.
