This paper describes the qualitative and quantitative determination of E-caprolactarn and E-arninocaproic acid, which are potential contaminants of polyamid 6, by instrumental thin-layer chromatography (planar chromatography). A validation of the method is proposed. Detection was performed by photodensitornetry in UV range at 200 nm for e-caprolactarn, and at 588 nrn after derivatization by ninhydrin reagent for E-aminocaproic acid. Correlation coefficients for calibration were found about 0.996 -0.999. Repeatability results were included bet w e e n 2.4 % a nd 5.5 YO. D e r i v at i zat i o n by Over p re ss u red Derivatization (OPD) technique gave similar results as direct UV detection.
