ABSTRACTThe cubio (Tropaeolum tuberosum Ruíz and Pavón) is a basic tuber in the diet of Andean communities. It is a rustic crop, with medicinal uses. Farmers in the highlands of Boyacá department conserve tuber species such as cubios, rubas and ibias, as part of their cultural heritage; however, in recent years this germplasm has been threatened by genetic erosion due anthropogenic and environmental factors. There are not studies of molecular characterization of this germplasm in Boyacá, thus this research aims to identify the genetic diversity of eleven genotypes of cubios from Ventaquemada and San Pedro de Iguaque, using seven Random Amplified Microsatellite markers (RAMs). The similarity analysis differentiated the materials into two main groups, according to characteristics related to the tuber's color and shape. The estimated heterozygosity values ranged between 0.25 and 0.42 for CGA and AG primers, respectively, which is low when compared to the results obtained in other tuberous species. The heterozygosity average in the population was 0.35, and together with the analysis of molecular variance and Fst show the existence of genetic variability in the cultivars evaluated, which should be considered in conservation programs and plant breeding of Andean tubers.

RESUMENLas malezas constituyen uno de los problemas fitosanitarios que afectan la rentabilidad de los cultivos. El periodo crítico de competencia con el cultivo (PCC), permite prever el nivel de interferencia de las malezas sobre la producción del cultivo de interés. El objetivo de esta investigación fue determinar el PCC entre zanahoria y las plantas asociadas al cultivo, en el municipio de Ventaquemada, departamento de Boyacá, implementando un diseño en Bloques Completos al Azar, con 12 tratamientos y cuatro repeticiones, el cual incluía un grupo de tratamientos libres de malezas por un periodo de tiempo (10, 20, 30, 40 ó 50 días), al término del cual se permitía el crecimiento de las mismas en el cultivo, de modo que el cultivo estuviese primero libre y luego en competencia (LC) y en el segundo grupo de tratamientos se permitía primero el desarrollo del proceso de competencia entre la maleza y el cultivo por un intervalo de tiempo igual al del grupo anterior y luego se retiraban las malezas. El mayor número de plantas cosechadas se obtuvo en la parcela libre de competencia durante los primeros 50 días después de emergencia. El mayor rendimiento se obtuvo en el tratamiento que se mantuvo limpio

Random amplified microsatellite (RAMs) markers six were used to characterize 93 genotypes of cocoa in Tumaco (Colombia). Hundred twenty seven bands were generated. The number of polymorphic loci varied between 11 and 25 for the AG and TG primers, respectively. This study differentiated the 93 genotypes into six groups with a 0.53 similarity, 0.28 mean heterozygosity (He) for the population, and 0.12±0.02 genetic differentiation coefficient or Fst. A significant level of genetic diversity was evident in the T. cacao genotypes. This resource would benefit selection programs of individual trees or plant breeding programs. The genotypes clustered in a large proportion in accordance with the collection zone. This characteristic was associated with collection zones and along the rivers in the municipality of Tumaco. The RAM technique proved to be a useful tool for the determination of genetic diversity in Theobroma species.

Eight Random Amplified Microsatellite markers (RAMs) were used to characterize the genetic diversity found in 14 Prunus materials belonging to the deciduous collection of the Pedagogical and Technological University of Colombia. A total of 121 bands were generated: they range from nine for the GT primer to 26 for the ACA primer, and have molecular weights between 100 and 2050 Kb. At a Nei-Li similarity level of 0.75, four groups were formed, according to the characteristics of the fruit. The number of polymorphic loci varied between 8 (GT and AG) and 21 (ACA); the higher levels of heterozygosity were CA (0.43) and CT (0.41). The average value of heterozigosity for the total population was 0.35, much lower than those found in other Prunus species, but higher than other fruit species where RAM markers were used. Therefore, strategies must be deployed for the collections in order to increase genetic variability, such as the introduction of wild or hybrid materials. The RAM technique proved useful as a method for assessing genetic diversity in species of the Prunus genus.

Dentro de los tubérculos andinos de mayor importancia, después de la papa, se encuentra la ibia (Oxalis tuberosa Mol.) ya que constituye un alimento básico para las comunidades andinas. Boyacá es uno de los departamentos de Colombia, en donde todavía existe la tradición de cultivar y consumir tubérculos andinos como los cubios, ullucus y rubas o ibias, sin embargo están amanezados por la erosión genética. No existen estudios sobre estos recursos fitogenéticos en Boyacá, por lo cual el objetivo de esta investigación fue colectar y caracterizar morfológica y molecularmente materiales de ibias en este departamento. El análisis morfológico mostro que las características más discriminantes fueron: color de los tallos aéreos, pigmentación de las axilas, color del follaje, color de la flor, color del pedúnculo y pedicelo, color predominante de la superficie del tubérculo, color secundario de la superficie del tubérculo, color predominante y secundario de la pulpa, distribución del color secundario de la pulpa y forma de los tubérculos. El análisis de similitud diferenció a los materiales en dos grandes grupos, de acuerdo principalmente a características morfológicas como el color y hábito de floración. El valor de hetorocigosidad promedio para la población total fue de 0.39 el cual se considera alto al compararse con otros estudios de diversidad genética en ibias. El análisis de varianza molecular (AMOVA) y el Fst (coeficiente de diferenciación genética) muestran que existe una alta variabilidad genética entre los materiales de ibias evaluados la cual debe ser conservada y aprovechada dentro de futuros programas de mejoramiento.

Chenopodium quinoa Willd., is an interesting plant with a great adaptation to adverse environmental factors and exceptional nutritional qualities. It shows great genetic variation, which organization remains poorly documented. In Boyacá, there are few studies on the morphological characterization of cultivated materials, and there is no certified planting material, resulting that the farmers are planting a mixture of materials. Qualitative and quantitative descriptors and principal component and cluster analyses were used to characterize the structure of the intra-population phenotypic variation in Piartal quinoa materials grown in the Department of Boyacá. It was observed that the first two components, CP1 and CP2, explained more than 70% of the total observed phenotypic variation, and there was a significant contribution from all variables to the two components, except those related to the lower leaves, where P2, P3 and P4 presented defoliation and DP (CP2 and P6). The cluster analysis showed that the individuals of the Piartal were grouped mainly by morphological characteristics associated with plant height, panicle length, pigmented axillae, and leaf characteristics. Results showed that the variance in morpho-phenological traits was concentrated at the intra-population, due the high variation at the inter-individual level. A more efficient selection process should be carried out to find "pure" varieties.

<strong>Título en inglés: Intraespecific variability of peach (<em>Prunus persica</em> L. Batsch.) and plums (<em>Prunus domestica</em>) using RAMs</strong><p><strong>Resumen: </strong>Se seleccionó una muestra de 41 materiales de <em>Prunus</em> de la colección de caducifolios de la Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia, para evaluar su variabilidad genética usando ocho marcadores Microsatélites Amplificados al Azar (RAMs). Se generaron un total de 121 alelos con pesos moleculares entre 260 y 1000 Kb. Se formaron tres grupos, a un coeficiente de similitud de 0.75, de acuerdo a las características del fruto y a la especie, encontrándose en el grupo II a los materiales de ciruelo. El porcentaje de loci polimórficos varío entre 71 y 99% para los cebadores CGA y CCA, respectivamente. El valor promedio de heterocigosidad fue de 0.22, mucho más bajo que los encontrados en otros estudios de diversidad genética en el género <em>Prunus</em>. La técnica RAMs mostró ser una herramienta útil para evaluar la diversidad genética en frutales caducifolios, al discriminar a los materiales en tres grupos e identificar el alto grado de consanguinidad que existe entre las diferentes especies de <em>Prunus</em> lo cual debe ser aprovechado dentro de las estrategias de hibridación que busquen la obtención de nuevos y mejores materiales. </p><p><strong>Palabras claves: </strong><em>Prunus</em>, Diversidad genética, Microsatélites RAMs, caducifolios.</p><p><strong>Abstract: </strong>A sample of 41 <em>Prunus </em>materials from the deciduous collection of the Pedagogical and Technological University of Colombia was selected to evaluate its genetic diversity using eight primers for Random Amplified Microsatellite (RAMs). A total of 121 alleles were generated with molecular weights ranging between 260 and 1000 Kb. Three groups were formed, a similarity coefficient of 0.75, according to fruit characteristics and specie, found plum materials in group II. The percentage of polymorphic loci ranged from 71 to 99% for the primers CGA and CCA, respectively. The average value of heterozygosity was 0.33, much lower than values found in other genetic diversity studies in the genus <em>Prunus</em>. The RAMs technique showed to be a useful tool for assessing genetic diversity in deciduous fruit, discriminate the materials into three groups and identify the high degree of consanguinity between different Prunus species which should be exploited in hybridization strategies looking for obtaining new and improved materials.<strong></strong></p><p><strong>Key words</strong>: <em>Prunus</em>, Genetic diversity, Microsatellites RAMs, deciduous. </p>
