Spontaneous DNA insertions from supernumerary B chromosomes (Bs) into the standard A chromosome complement were detected in rye (Secale cereale L.), using fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) analysis with the D1100 B-specific sequence probe. The insertions were seen in individuals derived from plants possessing deleted Bs, characterized in this study by not having the B-specific sequences that are normally found at the distal part of the long arm of the standard rye B. This result supports the case for the spontaneous introgression of B-specific DNA into the A chromosome genome, and it indicates that 'cross-talking' between A and B chromosomes may occur in wild populations.

A terapia assistida por animais (TAA) tem por propósito a introdução do animal junto a um indivíduo ou grupo com objetivo de promover a saúde física, mental e emocional através de mecanismos básicos, o estímulo tátil e afetivo. Esta prática tem se tornado cada vez mais frequente no mundo, e vem crescendo no Brasil. Nesse sentido, o presente estudo teve por objetivo relatar sobre a terapia assistida por animais em crianças autistas atendidas pelo Centro de Atendimento Clínico do Instituto de Psicologia (CAPsi) da Prefeitura Municipal de Uberlândia – PMU. Neste estudo foi proposto a escolha de aves jovens (pintinhos) como espécie terapeuta. Os encontros de TAA foram realizados uma vez por semana com duração de uma hora, durante quatro meses. Os pacientes foram selecionados pela equipe de profissionais do CAPsi, num total de cinco participantes, todos autistas, e utilizou-se aproximadamente dez pintinhos. Apenas 25% das crianças que participaram da atividade não apresentaram interesse pelas aves, sendo que 75% demonstraram comportamento afetivo e melhoria no convívio familiar. O uso TAA com pintinhos apresentou resultados favoráveis no aspecto do comportamento familiar e social de crianças autistas atendidas por profissionais da psicopedagogia.

The continuous need for education and the significant changes in European policies and regulations overseeing sports coaching and training require the adjustment of teaching models and methods to the needs and potential of teachers, students, and technology. In educational and training programmes for team sports coaching, it is common to use a group of athletes or video to demonstrate physical, technical, and tactical procedures. This requires significant human resources, both while developing the procedures and to reproduce them. Furthermore, both cases (live execution by athletes or video recording) are limited in visual perspective and detail. For this reason, specific software for demonstrating tactical procedures is sometimes used. But existing software presents significant limitations, for instance, when one cannot change procedures in real time nor can one interact with the audience. This article focus on the development of a new resource: a software system combining tri-dimensional automated avatars in the Second Life world, an external control server, and an helper desktop application. Using this system, coaches enrolled in education/training programs can more easily be involved, even taking a player’s role, and analyze movements from various points of view. This system aims to contribute to the improvement of the team handball coach education programs by supporting the understanding of the dynamics between defensive and offensive players in the organized phase of a handball game, using shared 3-D simulations with avatars.

Background Bovine leptospirosis is mainly characterized by reproductive disorders. Contamination of the oocyte was previously demonstrated in vitro, resulting in some apparent damage. However, it is not clear whether it occurs under natural conditions. The present study aimed to characterize the presence of pathogenic Leptospira DNA in the ovarian follicles of non‐pregnant cows. Methods Follicular fluid samples were collected from 65 animals and subjected to lipL32 PCR and secY sequencing. Results In total, seven of 65 (10.8%) were positive, indicating a possible early infection of the oocyte. Moreover, secY sequencing identified L. interrogans and L. santarosai, both very closely related to bovine strains from the Sejroe serogroup (Hardjoprjitno and Guaricura). We demonstrated that ovarian follicles can also be infected. Conclusions It was hypothesised that ovarian infection can contribute to embryonic death, causing reproductive failure and estrus repetition. In the present study, we show that the organism identified in the follicle is closely related to one that is known to be associated with reproductive disorders.

Abstract-Learning Management Systems (LMS) provide minimal support for educational use of virtual worlds.Integration efforts assume the educators are inside the virtual world, providing hooks to services in the external LMS, to setup and manage virtual world activities. We present the inverse approach, enabling educators to setup and manage virtual world activities using the traditional LMS Web interface as an integral part of the overall educational activities of a course. In our approach, the LMS enables the teacher/trainer to setup, control, track, and store virtual world activities and its elements. It is the result of a joint effort by academic and corporate teams, implemented in the Formare LMS for OpenSimulator and Second Life Grid virtual world platforms. We explain how the Multis architecture can be used for integration, with concrete cases, an approach that can be implemented in other LMS and virtual world platforms, to overcome the limitations of existing systems for organizational management of e-learning activities.
