ResumoIntrodução: a gameterapia é uma intervenção que promove a melhora do equilíbrio em idosos. Objetivos: verificar a eficácia da utilização de gameterapia em Nintendo WII® para melhora do equilíbrio de idosos. Métodos: trata-se de um estudo piloto com 10 idosos de ambos os sexos. Foram aplicados testes específicos como Escala de Equilíbrio de Berg, Teste "Timed Up and Go" e Teste do Alcance Funcional e após realizado a gameterapia por meio de jogos de esporte, agilidade e raciocínio do Nintendo WII®. Foi utilizado o teste t de student dependente um nível de significância de p < 0,05. Resultados: ao comparar o efeito do programa de treinamento de Nintendo WII® no equilíbrio dos idosos, verificou-se diferença significativa (p < 0,05) em todos os testes de equilíbrio, evidenciando que o programa de intervenção baseado no Nintendo WII® teve um efeito positivo sobre o equilíbrio dos idosos. Conclusão: a gameterapia por meio do Nintendo WII® proporcionou aos idosos melhora do seu equilíbrio.Descritores: Envelhecimento; Reabilitação; Realidade virtual; Promoção da Saúde. AbstractIntroduction: game therapy is an intervention that promotes the improvement of balance in the elderly. Objectives: to verify the effectiveness of the use of game therapy in Nintendo WII® to improve the balance of the elderly. Methods: it is a pilot study with 10 elderly people of both sexes. Specific tests such as the Berg Balance Scale, the "Timed Up and Go" Test and the Functional Reach Test were applied and after the game therapy was performed through Nintendo WII® sports games, agility and reasoning. Student-dependent t-test was used at a significance level of p <0.05. Results: when comparing the effect of the Nintendo WII® training program on the balance of the elderly, a significant difference (p <0.05) was observed in all balance tests, showing that the intervention program based on the Nintendo WII® a positive effect on the balance of the elderly. Conclusion: game therapy through Nintendo WII® provided the elderly with improved balance.
