El estudio de trayectorias escolares permitió conocer diferentes dimensiones del trayecto que siguieron los estudiantes de una cohorte de la carrera de Licenciado en Geografía, de la Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México, como mecanismo alternativo de diagnóstico y evaluación, para la planeación del proceso de reestructuración de dicho programa. El objetivo del trabajo fue evaluar algunos indicadores de las trayectorias escolares de los estudiantes de la cohorte 2012-2017 de dicha Licenciatura, para ello se partió de los indicadores previos a su ingreso, como el promedio del bachillerato y los resultados del Exani II, así como la tasa de promoción, deserción, retención y aprobación en la trayectoria seguida hasta su egreso. El trabajo corresponde a una investigación de tipo no experimental, específicamente a un estudio de desarrollo por cohortes, que tomó como base a 38 estudiantes que concluyeron la carrera de un total 64 matriculados al inicio, de 71 que presentaron el examen de ingreso y que fueron aceptados en su totalidad.Este ejercicio se sustenta, por un lado, en el análisis de las bases de datos del Departamento de Control Escolar de la propia Facultad, y por otra parte, en el diseño y aplicación de un cuestionario que permitió identificar algunos datos de carácter personal, así como aspectos de tipo socioeconómico que pudieran estar vinculados con sus trayectorias.Entre los resultados más relevantes se pudo observar que del total de estudiantes matriculados en la cohorte de referencia, 73.2% corresponde a la primera etapa de ingreso y poco más de una cuarta parte, ingresaron en la segunda, aun así no se logró cubrir la capacidad de absorción que pretendía sumar 80 estudiantes.Respecto al primer indicador considerado, se observó que el promedio del bachillerato con el que ingresaron los estudiantes oscila entre 6.5 y 9.5 puntos, lo que hace un promedio de 7.6, mientras que el segundo indicador resultó mucho más bajo que el anterior; en el examen de ingreso los 71 alumnos que presentaron el Exani II fueron aceptados, pero solo 50.70% lo acreditaron, con resultados que van de 6.0 a 8.2 puntos, y el resto, 49.30% lo reprobaron, con promedios que oscilan entre 4.3 y 5.9 puntos de calificación. De todos ellos, únicamente 64 se inscribieron al primer semestre, lo que representó una tasa de migración cercana al 10%.En el resto de indicadores, se aprecia que las tasas de promoción más bajas se registran en el tercero y cuarto semestre, lo que representa un problema que hay que atender entre el ingreso y los primeros dos año de la carrera. La tasa de retención más baja ocurre en el tercero y cuarto semestre, en tanto que la más alta ocurre en el octavo y noveno semestre y finalmente, la tasa de aprobación indica que de las 79 materias cursadas, en 35 de ellas supera el 90%, 30 materia oscilan entre 75 y 89.9%, 10 más se ubican entre 60 y 74.9% y solo 4 materias registran tasa de aprobación inferiores al 60%.
Esta revisión teórica busca dar cuenta del análisis realizado sobre la discusión de la literatura que sustenta el enfoque conceptual identificado en su idioma original como “Powerful Knowledge Geography”, el cual aquí se trabaja como Conocimiento Geográfico Potente (CGP) para reconocer el nivel de desarrollo de dicho planteamiento y analizar su pertinencia en la educación geográfica. Se encontraron diversas posturas sobre lo que puede significar el CGP y un punto de encuentro en el que su enseñanza debe ser a través de un proceso de recontextualización, como parte de la reivindicación al acceso democrático de este conocimiento y como derecho de justicia social para los estudiantes. La indagación se realizó a partir de una búsqueda sistemática de la literatura publicada en diversas bases de datos entre los años 2007 y 2021. Se analizaron 80 resultados considerados pertinentes que dan cuenta del acervo teórico del tema. Este artículo refiere los aportes correspondientes al CGP, con respecto a su base teórica, el Conocimiento Poderoso (CP), para profundizar en la discusión de los trabajos que analizan el nivel de desarrollo de este enfoque. La investigación permite reconocer las fortalezas y áreas de oportunidad que este planteamiento aporta a la educación geográfica.
Este libro concentra la oferta educativa de las once carreras de licenciatura en Geografía que hay en México, impartidas en nueve universidades, ubicadas la mayor parte en las zonas centro, sur y sureste del territorio mexicano. En esta obra participan un total de 23 autores y coautores de capítulo, en su mayoría fundadores, directivos, coordinadores o ex coordinadores de carrera con una sólida formación geográfica en universidades del país y del extranjero, así como una amplia trayectoria que muchos de ellos atestiguan al ser miembros del Sistema Nacional de Investigadores del Conacyt. El trabajo se realiza por acuerdo de los participantes fruto de una reunión de trabajo en junio de 2021 y de la propuesta de un primer coloquio nacional sobre “Las carreras de Geografía en México” realizado ex profeso para exponer, debatir y ajustar los avances de los trabajos realizados hasta ese entonces y perfeccionarlos. Las contribuciones están organizadas de forma cronológica, y están antecedidas por un trabajo introductorio que da cuenta de la importancia de la obra, su estructura y organización. La obra se destaca por ser la primera de su tipo en el país y constituye un valioso aporte a nivel nacional e internacional, en virtud de que ofrece una radiografía clara de la oferta educativa geográfica de nivel superior en México, destacando el origen, evolución, orientación profesional, características y retos, así como la ubicación de cada programa y la universidad que lo imparte.
Un problema que caracteriza a la Licenciatura en Geografía de la Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEM), es que un buen número de los alumnos que ingresan abandonan la carrera, por lo que un vínculo que identificamos necesario conocer es la relación ingreso-deserción, además de indagar las percepciones, intereses y expectativas de los desertores, atender el terreno de su Trayectoria escolar (TE). La deserción escolar forma parte de un proceso el cual presenta una problemática multifactorial y dinámica, lejos de ser un problema local, es una temática en el ámbito mundial y su estudio se ha abordado desde diferentes perspectivas. El estudio incorpora elementos cuantitativos y cualitativos, los procedimientos elegidos para su desarrollo son la encuesta, entrevista y el análisis documental. Uno de los principales resultados fue la obtención de una tipología de las TE. De acuerdo con los comportamientos académicos de los educandos se obtuvieron 6 categorías para los no desertores y 3 para los desertores. Estas categorías constituyen la base para caracterización de los estudiantes de acuerdo con los indicadores y variables empleadas. Como parte de las conclusiones se plantea que para aproximarnos al conocimiento de los procesos tan diversos y complejos que involucran al desempeño de los estudiantes, es necesario identificar los factores o aspectos de la realidad personal, familiar e institucional que influyen en la deserción como parte de las TE. Se concluye que las diferencias entre las TE de los desertores en cuanto a motivos, circunstancias y momentos por y en los que abandonan la carrera, dan cuenta de la necesidad de realizar acciones que además de fortalecer la esfera motivacional, propicien la integración académica y social de los alumnos, la cual está relacionada tanto con su desempeño académico, como con la decisión de permanecer o abandonar los estudios.
El trabajo presenta el diseño de una propuesta didáctica realizada y aplicada con alumnos de quinto grado, en una escuela primaria rural del estado de Veracruz, con el uso de Google Earth como alternativa de enseñanza y aprendizaje de algunos temas geográficos, lo anterior ante el requerimiento de los Planes y Programas de Estudios 2011 sobre la implementación de estrategias que incorporen el uso de las Tecnologías de la Información y Comunicación (TIC) para apoyar diferentes asignaturas. El artículo, busca abonar a dichos requerimientos y tiene como prioridad que los estudiantes hagan uso del poco equipo de que dispone su escuela y manejen información geográfica, a través de este programa, mediante el uso de las TIC, de manera interactiva y atractiva, de tal forma que se geste un aprendizaje significativo, reflejado en el rendimiento académico de los alumnos. El procedimiento consistió en un diagnóstico breve con el docente y alumnos del grupo, para conocer la percepción que tienen, y la importancia que otorgan al uso de esta herramienta como alternativa de enseñanza y aprendizaje. Con los resultados obtenidos, se formuló y corrió la propuesta, en el marco del constructivismo en que operan los programas, con apoyo del modelo ASSURE, evidenciando mayor interés por el conocimiento geográfico y su rendimiento escolar.
