A tradução é uma atividade que envolve muitas complexidades, entre as quais a constituição da ética e da autoria do tradutor, que precisam ser mais discutidas. Assim, este trabalho busca refletir sobre como a invisibilidade oculta a constituição autoral do tradutor, impactando, também, na ética do tradutor, em traduções domesticadoras. Para demonstrar os pontos discutidos, são apresentados alguns exemplos retirados de uma tradução domesticada e adaptada do conto The Yellow Wallpaper (1892), da escritora Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Até que ponto o tradutor pode interferir na escrita do autor do original? Quais são os impactos da presença discursiva do tradutor para a obra e para o seu leitor? Sabe-se que o discurso do tradutor está sempre presente em seu trabalho, por meio de suas escolhas lexicais, estratégias e técnicas utilizadas em sua tradução. No entanto, a invisibilidade ilusória continua a ser praticada pelo mercado e instituições, apontando para a necessidade de se retomar a discussão. Além disso, é preciso considerar que tais questões têm implicações para a ética do tradutor. Assim, o referencial teórico da área dos estudos da tradução dá a base para as reflexões, tomando, como ponto de partida, as contribuições de Venuti (1995) para a área e o tema.
A questão da invisibilidade do tradutor é bastante debatida dentro dos estudos da tradução, sobretudo com relação a textos literários. Contudo, pouco se estuda a questão no contexto da tradução de quadrinhos, causando uma lacuna nessa área. No Brasil, a produção e a circulação de quadrinhos têm aumentado graças a sua crescente popularização, gerando uma nova demanda no mercado: a tradução de quadrinhos. Assim, o presente trabalho visa refletir sobre como se dá a questão da visibilidade do tradutor nos quadrinhos, trazendo alguns exemplos para discussão, para também refletir sobre possíveis motivos para que tal visibilidade seja mais possível em tal gênero. Para atingir seus propósitos e contribuir com o estudo da tradução de quadrinhos, o referencial teórico adotado enfoca possíveis relações entre texto e imagem de Barthes (1990), e algumas considerações sobre os quadrinhos de Umberto Eco (1993), que dão suporte às reflexões e análises.
