Limnological characteristics of the Violão and Amendoim lakes, in the Serra dos Carajás, Amazon, were studied interannually (2013)(2014). Climate data indicate anomalous conditions during the 2013 rainy period with higher rainfall and lower temperature in the beginning (November). Lake levels were influenced after the first and second hour of each rainfall, which showed a strong synchronization between seasonal fluctuation of lake levels and local weather patterns. Based on the water quality, both lakes are classified as classes "1" and "2" in the CONAMA (Conselho Nacional do Meio Ambiente) scheme and as "excellent" to "good" in the WQI (Water Quality Index) categories. However, the limnology is distinctly different between the lakes and seasons. Higher trophic state and phytoplankton productivity were observed mainly during the rainy period in Violão Lake compared to Amendoim Lake. This may be due to deposition of leached nutrients in the former, mainly total phosphorus (TP), which was probably derived from mafic soils and guano. This is consistent with the significant positive correlation between Chlorophyll-a and TP at the end of the rainy period (March-April), whereas this was not observed in the beginning (November). This could possibly be a consequence of the more intense cloud cover, and unusual high rainfall that limits nutrient availability.
CLIMATOLOGICAL RAINFALL PATTERNS AND TRENDS IN THE RAINY AND DRY REGIMES IN EASTERN AMAZONABSTRACT: This paper presents a contribution to the dynamic climatology aspects of the eastern Amazon, based on the observational analysis of the 40-yr historical series (1975 to 2014) of precipitation from 30 meteorological stations in the states of Pará, Maranhão and Tocantins. The results showed that the climatological rainfall patterns in the rainy (January to May) and dry (July to November) regimes presented a pronounced spatial variability with different climatic characteristics (intensity and geographic position of pluviometric maximum and minimum) between the two seasonal regimes. Precipitation data from the TRMM satellite indicated that the ITCZ and SACZ are the main meteorological systems of the rainy regime, while the convective complexes, instability lines and influences of the frontal bands located in the Brazilian northeast are the main
Empirical orthogonal functions (EOF) and composites analysis were employed on pentad data in order to investigate the tropical atmospheric-ocean patterns over the Atlantic Ocean and the spatial-temporal characteristics of the rainfall in eastern Amazon during the peak of the rainy season (February to April). The EOF results evidenced that the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is the main rainfall-producing system in eastern Amazon during the rainy season. Conditions associated with the southward SST gradient in the intertropical Atlantic formed the dynamic patterns that favored the position of the ITCZ to south of the equator, thus explaining the predominance of positive precipitation anomalies in eastern Amazon, especially in the state of Maranhão and northeastern Pará during the February and April months.
The present investigation deals with the analysis of a series of precipitation indicators and their temporal variability in a restricted area of the forest of the Eastern Amazon. The main objective was to analyze the daily, daily and monthly rainfall patterns during the rainy and less rainy periods of the region. The following steps were used: a) Rainfall data collection with TB4 model balloons connected to a Campbell Scientifíc datalogger, model CR1000, installed in a 40 m high micrometeorological tower; b) evaluation of precipitation indicators, which was defined as the daily period in which a precipitation event greater than or equal to 1.0 mm occurred at least; b) non-parametric statistical tests to evaluate the hypothesis of significant differences between precipitation indicators between PC and PMC periods. The results indicated that in the PC and PMC, the highest rainfall frequency was in the category of 1.0 mm.day-1 to 10.0 mm.h-1. In the PC, rainfall was more prevalent during the afternoon and evening shifts and in PMC the predominance occurred, especially during the night shift. Friedman's statistical test (Fr (13, GL = 11) = 55.73 and p <0.0001) accused, respectively, that the March precipitation was the most eccentric of the CP series, whereas in PMC, it was the one of August. Then, it is confirmed the hypothesis that, in conserved forests, during the CP the precipitation regime is stratified, with prolonged rains, whereas in the PMC the rains are predominantly convective
In order to minimize both the production loss and the quality, and to guide the choice of adaptation strategies and management, further studies to investigate the impacts of climate change on agriculture -in the spatial and temporal scales -and their pathogens are needed. The main goal of this work was to explore the global climate impact on the ecoclimatology of the citrus blackfly (Aleurocanthus woglumi Ashby) in State of Pará. To do so, the thermal requirements of Aleurocanthus woglumi Ashby developed in laboratory and on the ecoclimatological zoning based on the annual insect population was first analyzed using air temperature data series from 15 meteorological stations. Then, the populational increase of the studied insect through the projections of global climate model CCSM 3.0, between years 2030 and 2090, was simulated and analyzed. The results of simulations suggest that the number of generations of the insect will increase 50% in Pará state.
