The experimental design was in randomized blocks using factorial 5x2x2, referring to five levels of saline water (0.5; 1.5; 3.0; 4.5; 6.0 dS m -1 ) in soil without and with bovine biofertilizer and in pots without and with drainage. In plants the water consumption, growth in height, stem diameter, number of leaves, dry matter of roots, aerial part and total dry mass were evaluated and in soil the electrical conductivity of saturation extract -EC was determined. The bovine biofertilizer, after dilution in non saline water (0.49 dS m -1 ) e no chlorinated water in 1:1 ratio was applied once two days before sowing, equivalent to 10% of substrate volume. Irrigation was applied daily with each water type applying volume sufficient to maintain the soil with water content at level of field capacity. From results the increase in salinity of water inhibited the water consumption by plants independently of the soil with or without bovine biofertilizer. The salinity of water in soil with and without bovine biofertilizer also reduced the growth of neem plants but with more pronounced effect in the treat...
ABSTRACTNoni fruit has been used since antiquity for treatment of many diseases such as allergy, arthritis, asthma, cancer, depression, diabetes, digestion, hypertension, and insomnia and is used as food supplement. Although these properties and its intercontinental adaptability, information about nutrient exigency and crop management is still little frequent in international and national literature. In this direction an experiment was carried out, during the period of
The substrate was material of a non-saline soil collected in depth of 0-20 cm. The treatments were arranged in a completely randomized design using a 5 x 2 factorial, referring to salinity levels of irrigation water of 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 dS m -1 , with and without bovine biofertilizer applied to the soil only once after dilution with water (1:1), a day before sowing, in volume corresponding to 10% of the substrate. At 86 days after emergence of seedlings the plant growth in height and principal root length, diameter of stem and root, leaf number and dry mass of roots and shoots of plants were evaluated. The salinity of irrigation water increased the salinity levels in the substrate inhibiting the growth in height, stem diameter, leaf emission by plants, diameter and length of principal root and the dry matter production of roots and aerial parts (leaves + stem) of neem, but with less pronounced decrease in plants under the treatments with bovine biofertilizer.
Noni is a fruit species cultivated around the world, including Brazil however, scientific information about its nutritional status are scarce, thus justifying the need for more research on this topic to enhance its productive yield. This study aim is to evaluate both the mineral foliar composition and the productivity of noni plants cultivated in soil with cattle manure and potassium (K). The experiment was conducted from July 2012 to November 2013 at the Universidade Federal da Paraíba, Municipality of Bananeiras, Paraíba State. Treatments were organised according to a 5 × 2 factorial design involving five doses of KCl (0; 13.2; 37.5; 61.5; and 69.6 g plant -1 ) in soil without cattle manure and with 4 kg plant -1 , in randomized blocks, with four repetitions and three plants per plot. The number of noni fruits harvested by plants fertilized with cattle manure increased from 51 to 70 fruits plant -1 .Compared to coffee trees, noni plants were adequately supplied with nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, sulphur, iron and zinc, but they were deficient in boron and manganese. The application of cattle manure to soil promoted contents of phosphorus and potassium in foliar samples, positively affecting the fruit formation and the production of noni plants.
