Flood vulnerability analysis in the Sirinhaém river basin using the Analytic Hierarchy Process method A B S T R A C THeavy rains generate river floods and flash floods, compromising the quality of life of the local population and causing significant damage to the economy. The Sirinhaém river is constituted by perennial rivers and provides a significant capacity of regularized flows. The heavy rains that occurred in July 2010 had, for example, great consequences for basic health units, teaching units and homes at Barra de Guabiraba, Palmeirinha, Cortês and Gameleira. Thus, the study aims to map and the identify areas vulnerable to flooding using the AHP methodology, developed by Saaty in 1970. This methodology initially assigns a degree of importance to the variables studied, namely: altitude, slope, soil type, land use and occupation, and then applies map algebra using the QGIS software. The mapping results revel a region mostly with low to moderate vulnerability, with hight vulnerability seen only in areas of lower altitude and slopes as seen in the basin exutory and river zones. Keywords: vulnerability. flooding.
