Abstract-This study systematically reviews, classifies and synthesizes the research related to Emerging Technologies (ETs) in the field of formal education between 2006 and 2016, aiming to identify areas of uncertainty for future research. In addition, this study is a tool to guide teachers in their decision making when incorporating technologies in the classroom. The research approach was mixed and it analyzed 288 studies that met the inclusion criteria. Results show that all the studies aimed to improve and to transform the different educational processes through the incorporation of ETs. The most used methodology was qualitative research; the survey was the most widely used instrument; the most affected population was the students in the context of higher education; the competences to improve was critical thinking, followed by problem solving, collaborative work, creative thinking, and decision-making. Emerging Technologies (ETs) are contextual, adaptable, evolving, ubiquitous, disruptive, innovative, complementary and generate a degree of uncertainty, they can be complex, accessible, functional, easy to use, interactive and it found that Web 2.0 technologies are the most used in the studies.
Present-day society calls for new student-centred didactic methodologies that make the student an active participant in their learning process. Strategies aimed at training citizens and professionals must adapt and respond to a society that is constantly changing. In this context, self-regulated learning and educational co-design emerge as key concepts in the development of new educational approaches. The present study seeks to identify the elements shared by models of self-regulation and educational co-design in technology-enhanced learning environments. To this end, a systematic review of the scientific literature during the period 2014-2019 has been conducted. The search was carried out using five databases: (1) Ebsco Host; (2) Web of Science; (3) Scopus; (4) ERIC; (5) Dialnet. A total of 830 references and 21 papers meeting the criteria for inclusion were identified. An analysis of the studies selected enabled us to identify the self-regulation models associated with co-design learning processes, as well as the elements they have in common. These include planning, motivation, cognition, task management, collaboration, and degree of success. The results provide the first steps for the construction of a co-design model, which includes guidelines for the creation of personalised learning pathways in technology-enhanced environments.
The quality of teaching does not depend exclusively on the knowledge and experience of teachers, but also on the contextual variables that go along with the teaching (attitude, objectives, students, resources, etc.) or dimensions of pedagogic frailty (regulative and instructional discourse, pedagogy and discipline, research teaching nexus and locus of control. Identifying these variables may help to enhance teaching. A procedure for the capture, representation and transfer of knowledge between peers regarding active didactic methodologies supported by Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) was applied in a case study research. The data were represented by concept maps. The aim was to identify variables that affect Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK), the use of technology in teaching and pedagogic frailty, through the analysis of the interrelations among the concept maps. The analysis of the maps shows the implementation of many innovations with ICT (project-based learning, service-learning, collaborative learning), their positive aspects and the difficulties in carrying them out. The teachers involved pointed out some factors that contribute to the development of pedagogic frailty, including the number of students in each class, the organization of teaching, the motivation, among others, and as conditions for a greater progress in innovative educational experiments using ICT.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
