2-[6-(Morpholin-4-yl)pyridin-3-ylamino]acetohydrazide (4) was obtained starting from 6-morpholin-4-ylpyridin-3-amine (2) via the formation of ester (3) and then converted to the corresponding Schiff bases (5, 6) with the reaction with aromatic aldehydes. The carbothioamide (9), obtained from the reaction of hydrazide with phenylisothiocyanate, was converted to the corresponding 1,2,4-triazole (11) and 1,3,4-thiadiazole (12) derivatives by the treatment with NaOH or H2SO4, respectively. The cyclocondenzation of 9 with 4-chlorophenacyl bromide or ethyl bromoacetate produced the corresponding 1,3-thiazole (10) or 1,3-thiazolidine derivatives (13), respectively. Antimicrobial and antiurease activities of newly synthesized compounds were investigated. Some of them were found to be active on M. smegmatis, and they displayed activity toward C. albicans and S. cerevisiae in high concentration. Compound 10 proved to be the most potent showing an enzyme inhibition activity with an IC50 = 2.37 ± 0.19 μM.
Some series of arylidene barbiturates and thiobarbiturates were evaluated for their antibacterial, antioxidant, and urease inhibition activities. The arylidene barbiturates and thiobarbiturates were tested for antimicrobial activity using the agar well diffusion technique against 13 bacteria. The synthesized compounds (1a–g) were screened for antiurease and antioxidant activities. The results showed that the synthesized compounds (1a–g) had effective antiurease, antioxidant, and antibacterial activities.
Polyaniline was chemically synthesized in aqueous acidic medium (HCl) with ammonium peroxydisulfate [(NH 4) 2 S 2 O 8 ] as the oxidizing agent, using a procedure described in the literature. Because the synthesis of polyaniline was carried out in aqueous acidic media, the obtained product consisted of emeraldine hydrochloride. The obtained product was washed several times with water and with HCl solution in which it was synthesized, and then treated with ammonia solution at room temperature overnight to convert it to the base form before doping. CuCl 2 , AlCl 3 , and ten different organic or protonic acids were examined as dopants in different conditions. We observed that washing of the product, the reaction time and synthesis conditions, the acidity of the reaction media, and the type and concentration of the doping agents all affected the conductivity of polyaniline. The best conductivity (∼ 27 S cm −1) was obtained by HBr at 0.5 M concentration.
A new series of 2‐(3‐fluorobenzyl)‐1H‐benzimidazole derivatives containing Schiff base, 1,3,4‐oxadiazole, thiosemicarbazide, and 1,3,4‐thiadiazole moiety was synthesized. All the synthesized compounds were investigated for their antioxidant and antibacterial activities.
We investigated the effects of a combined treatment with chromium (Cr) and niacin on the spleen, tongue, and lens tissues in terms of lipid peroxidation (LPO), glutathione (GSH), serum catalase (CAT), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), serum cholesterol, and total lipid levels in normal and hyperlipemic rats. In this study, female 1-year-old Swiss albino rats were used. The rats were randomly divided into four groups. Group I rats (control) were fed with standard pellet chow. Group II rats were fed a lipogenic diet in which 2% cholesterol, 0.5% cholic acid, and 20% sunflower oil were added and were given 3% alcoholic water for 60 days. Group III rats were fed with the same lipogenic diet and were treated with a dose of 250 microg/kg body weight CrCI3 x 6H2O and 100 mg/kg body weight niacin, for 45 days, by gavage. The rats in group IV were fed with pellet chow and treated with 250 microg/kg body weight CrCI3 x 6H2O and 100 mg/kg body weight niacin, by gavage, for 45 days. After 2 weeks, the animals showed symptoms of hyperlipemia. On the 60th day, tissue and blood samples were taken. We have observed decreased CAT activity and GSH levels, increased LDH activity, cholesterol, total lipid, and LPO levels in hyperlipemic rats. Niacin and Cr administration to hyperlipemic rats increased tissue GSH levels and CAT activity and decreased tissue LPO levels and LDH activity, cholesterol, and total lipid levels compared with hyperlipemic rats. We conclude that the administration of a combination of niacin and chromium has a protective effect against oxidative damage to tongue, lens, and spleen tissues as a result of hyperlipemia.
