Context aware systems are a promising approach to facilitate dailylife activities. Concerning communication services, business users may be sometimes overloaded with work so that they become temporally unable to handle incoming communications. After having surveyed the challenges to build context-aware systems, we introduce here HEP, a system that recommends communication services to the caller based on the callee's context. HEP's main context source is the usage history of the different communication services as well as the users' calendars. It has been prototyped and tested at Orange Labs.
Context aware communication services rely on information sources and sensors, to derive users’ current situation and potential needs, and to adapt their communication services accordingly. If extensive studies have been driven on context awareness by industrials and researchers from academia, the design of such systems without modifying uses and manners of underlying communication services—while keeping them simple, intuitive, and reactive—remains a challenge. In this work, we introduce a context aware communication system that takes into account user’s preferences, workload, and situation to customize telephony services. In this implementation, we use IMS for communication management. The benefits of this implementation are the enhancement of IMS with context awareness features, and the coupling of user preferences with contextual information to provide improved service customization, without modifying the user experience.
International audienceContext-Aware Communication (CAC) services enable end-devices or service platforms to adapt their comportment to sensed context information, either instantly or in a deferred way. There is today no available framework for supporting the development of CAC applications in a generic way. After surveying previous works, we propose here a new approach for classifying context-aware communication systems. Relying on this approach, we design a comprehensive framework based on a distributed service broker for the development of such systems.
