Context-Aware Systems: A Case Study

Abstract: Context aware systems are a promising approach to facilitate dailylife activities. Concerning communication services, business users may be sometimes overloaded with work so that they become temporally unable to handle incoming communications. After having surveyed the challenges to build context-aware systems, we introduce here HEP, a system that recommends communication services to the caller based on the callee's context. HEP's main context source is the usage history of the different communication services… Show more

“…Involvement referred to concerns about or active actions for an event when the participant revealed curiosity or interests in a certain event, in which the higher concerns presented the more emphasis on the event, or the lower concerns showed the less attention. Chihani, Bertin, Jeanne & Crespi (2011) pointed out the occurrence of involvement when a product was involved in important value, demands, or self-concepts. Involvement therefore was individual attitudes and concerns about an activity or even that the higher concerns revealed the deeper involvement.…”

“…Several definitions of context have been proposed, however, there is no real consensus on the definition of this concept since it is used in many research fields. The context is defined by Chihani et al [8], [9] as all information intrinsic to an entity, e.g. user, which can be acquired and made explicit in order to enable them to adapt their behavior to the state of the entity.…”

“…Nevertheless, such ability of systems is determined by the developer of them. Designers of context-aware ubiquitous computing systems have to include the ability to dynamically add, change and select the appropriate needed functionality or services [12].There have been many instances of these; context-aware messenger [13], context-aware communication service provider [14], office assistant [15] , context-aware applications which are used in the areas of Internet of Things (IoT) [8], and many ambient intelligent context-aware systems and applications [16,17] can be considered as potential applications of context-aware systems.…”
