Utilisation de rubans de plastique pour la récolte des oeufs et des stades larvaires et nymphaux de Simulies (Diptères Paranématocères) et pour l'étude biologique de ceux-ci. par J.-M. DOBY, B. RAULT et F. BEAUCOURNU-SAGUEZ La récolte des stades aquatiques de Simulies n'est pas toujours facile. Les oeufs sont disposés, en amas souvent, isolément parfois, sur les feuillages qui pendent des berges et traînent dans les zones de courant. Les larves et nymphes s'observent fixées sur ces mêmes feuillages, sur les branches, ainsi que sur les pierres et sur la végétation immergées. L'utilisation de supports artificiels pour cette récolte est relativement récente (1). Les premiers, Wolfe et Péterson (1958), ont utilisé des supports constitués par des cônes de métal peints en blanc et fixés aux pierres par des fils de fer. L'année suivante, ces mêmes auteurs utilisèrent des morceaux de bois, cylindres ou morceaux de planches carrés, maintenus à différentes profondeurs par des cordes dans les zones de courant. De même, en 1962, Carlsson récolta d'une façon satisfaisante les stades aquatiques d'un certain nombre d'espèces sur des surfaces planes constituées par des planches, des morceaux de vitres, fixés par des pierres dans le courant au fond du lit de ruisseaux. Toutefois, l'examen des supports naturels révèle que les stades aquatiques de la plu part des espèces de Simulies se fixent de préférence sur les végétaux dont les feuilles lon gues et rubanées ondulent dans les zones de courant. Il était donc logique d'utiliser de préférence comme supports artificiels un matériel rappelant d'assez près ce type de végétation. En 1962, Williams et Obeng utilisèrent, en même temps d'ailleurs que des entonnoirs en polythène qui ne leur donnèrent que de médiocres résultats, des rubans, de 2,5 cm de large et de 50 cm environ de long taillés dans des feuilles de polythène. CHABAUD (1) 1) Les gîtes à bullins en Corse pendant l'été 1965 Bulinus truncatus a sa limite nord de répartition géographique en France sur la côte méditerranéenne, semble-t-il, puisque signalé par Germain (1930) des Pyrénées-Orien tales. En Corse, cette espèce (2) a été signalée antérieurement par Germain dans le Fango notamment, et a fait plus tard l'objet de plusieurs prospections plus ou moins systématiques: E. Brumpt (1930), Buttner et Bourcart (1956 et 1957), Mars (1961) et Grétillat (1963). Celles-ci avaient montré la fréquence en relative abondance de B. trun catus dans toutes les zones côtières du pays, à l'exception de la moitié nord de la côte orientale, c'est-à-dire au nord de l'embouchure de la Chiola, l'absence de ce mollusque dans toute cette région étant attribuée par Buttner et Bourcart à la nature géologique du terrain (3). Ces études présentent en Corse un intérêt tout particulier, tant sur le plan médical que sur le plan vétérinaire, puisque ce gastropode est l'hôte intermédiaire possible de Schistosoma haematobium, Schistosoma bovis et Paramphistomum cervi. D'ailleurs, cer tains des auteurs précités, ainsi que L. Brumpt et Rocca-Serra (1956), ont envisagé les possibilités d'introduction de l'infection humaine dans l'île et étudié l'épidémiologie de la bilharziose animale dont l'existence a été reconnue à plusieurs reprises dans le sud de la Corse (E. Brumpt, 1930 ; Grétillat, 1963 ; Biguet et coll., 1962, communication orale). Nous n'avons pas jugé inutile d'y effectuer une nouvelle prospection systématique, puisque le Comité d'Experts de l'Organisation Mondiale de la Santé a appelé encore (1) Avec la collaboration technique, par ordre alphabétique, de A. (3) L'absence de B. truncatus, constatée par les deux auteurs dans cette zone, coïncidait en effet étrangement avec la nature schistique ou alluvionnaire de celle-ci. Germain avait cependant signalé sa présence « dans le Fango, près de Bastia (E. Requien, O. Debeau) et aux environs de Calvi (E. Caziot)... ». De même, l'existence, avant la dernière guerre, de stations à bullins au sud de Bastia, au nord de l'étang de Biguglia, nous a été signalée oralement par le Docteur Gaud. Ces stations n'ont fait l'objet d'aucune publication, à notre connaissance du moins.
Les Simulies, en raison de leurs exigences biologiques à l'état larvaire (eaux courantes et très fortement oxygénées), sont d'un élevage relativement difficile en laboratoire. Bien que le cycle complet semble n'avoir jamais pu encore être fermé, diverses tech niques ont permis cependant d'obtenir des adultes à partir de lar ves et même d'oeufs récoltés dans la nature. Ces techniques pro cèdent de deux principes :-eau continuellement renouvelée ;-eau circulant en circuit fermé. Un appareillage du premier type a ainsi permis à Cameron, en 1922, d'élever des larves de Simulium simile dans de l'eau courant dans des récipients métalliques galvanisés. Par la suite, Hoffmann (1930) obtint des adultes à partir de larves et de nymphes d'espèces mexicaines (S. mooseri, S. avidum), élevées dans l'eau courante d'une rigole, où la pose de petits obstacles transversaux amenait la formation de zones de remous. Bequaert (1934) arriva aux mêmes résultats en utilisant également un petit canal artificiel dans lequel le débit de l'eau pouvait être réglé à volonté. Un appareillage procédant du même principe, bien que de conception différente, a enfin permis à Hartley (1955) d'élever S. venustum dans un aquarium où le courant était produit par un système de trop-plein. A la portée de laboratoires situés en dehors des centres urbains et disposant éventuellement d'une source, la méthode utilisant une eau courant en conduites artificielles ou constamment renouvelée
