The contents and the composition of the alcaloids and flavonoids complex in the juices of the Passiflora edulis SIMS fruits, in the yellow and red fruit form, are evaluated. Furthermore the content of vitamin C and of the carotenoide dyestuffs was determined. The presence o f tanning agents so.as anthocyans was not 06served. O n the base of the pharmacodynamic investigation it was found, that the juice besides the ntrtritive propertiesacts tranquilizing, due to the presence of small quantities of alcaloids from the harman grotip and flavonoids. Ein vortreffliches, erfrischendes Getrank, welches heute eine zunehmende Bedeutung hat, wird aus dem Saft der Friichte der Passiflora zubereitet. Die Passiflora wird hauptsachlich in Australien, Neu Guinea, Kenya, Angola und auf den Hawai-Inseln angebaut. A method of chromatographic separation of barman alkaloids on filter paper impregnated with formamide and a method of quantitative harman determination based on its fluorescence and planimetric measurement of peaks registrated by .the microphotometer combined with a compensograph, directly from the chromatogram, were elaborated. Further an analogical quantitative determination method of flavonoids in barman raw materials, after their twodimensial paperchromatographic separation is described.The mentioned quantitative determination methods are more sensitive than the actually known ones and enable an objective reading of the harman (in concentrations up to 10 mg) and vitexine (up to 20 mg) contents in vegetable raw materials and in their processing products.

The presence of alkaloids and saponosids in the overground parts o f Passiflora edulis SIMS was established. The leaves contain 0.70 mg% and the stalks 0.17 mg% of alkaloids in converting t o barman. Raw material can be used in phytotherapy. Es wurde der Cehalt an Alkaloiden und Saponosiden in dem oberirdischen Teil der Passiflora edulis forma flavicarpa festgestellt. Die Blatter enthalten 0,70 mg% und die Stengel 0,17 mg% Alkaloide, als Harman berechnet. Die Drogen konnen in der Phytotherapie verwendet werden.

1. The highest contents of alkaloids of harman were ascertained in the leaves of Passiflora edulis (0,12 mg%) and in the stalks o f Zygophyllum fabago (0,45 mg%).2. In connexion with obtaining the refreshing drinks from fruits of Passiflora edulis it seems to be useful to utilize the leaves and peels of fruits as source of barman alkaloids for the pharmaceutical preparations with definite pharmacological efficacity.
