Transformation from conventional manufacturing system to lean manufacturing system has enabled many manufacturing companies to reduce waste and ultimately achieve operational excellence. Unfortunately, there were also many reported cases where manufacturers failed to sustain the transformation until they achieve the ultimate result. Converting organization’s culture into the lean culture is often claimed as one of the mechanisms to sustain lean transformation in manufacturing organizations. Thus, measuring to what level lean manufacturers have converted their organization’s culture relative to lean culture characteristics is critical. Selfadministered questionnaire is a practical research instrument to measure the level of lean culture in multiple manufacturing organizations that are located in far-reaching geographical as it saves time, money and effort. In this paper, 36 questionnaire items for measuring lean culture has been designed. These items can be used as parameters for predicting sustainability of lean transformation using statistical analysis such as linear regression or structural equation modelling.
The purpose of this paper is to perform a systematic literature review (SLR) on lean manufacturing (LM) adoption in Malaysia while highlighting research trends and gaps from this literature. The SLR involved analysing 163 scholarly articles from international journals and conference proceedings published between the year 2005 to 2019. The articles are classified as literature review, conceptual paper, case study, and survey research. These articles were also grouped into nine meaningful research themes, named: (1) lean definitions, (2) sustaining lean adoption, (3) motivations to adopt lean, (4) lean benefits, (5) results from lean adoption, (6) lean implementation barriers, (7) lean success factors, (8) lean implementation/ assessment models, and (9) lean integration with other management practices. The review findings shall help scholars and practitioners to identify research opportunities, design their future studies and/or implementation strategies, accordingly.
Tranformation from conventional production system to lean production system has helped many manufacturing companies to reduce cost and ultimately improve their business performance. Unfortunately, there were also many reported cases where manufacturers failed to sustain the transformation until they achieve the ultimate result. Therefore, this article aimed to review existing Lean Transformation Sustainability (LTS) models that might help scholars and practitioners gain better insights on how to sustain lean transformation. This article compiled 37 LTS models through assistance of online bibliographic databases. The review study found that many researchers have proposed original models which involved high participation of practitioners and to some extent consultants in the development of LTS models. It was also found that a huge number of inconsistent elements were used to propose the LTS models. The study findings provided direction towards future research opportunities such as the development of LTS assessment model that encompassed standard set of elements for generalisation.
This articleis a review of definitions and terminologies used in existing literatures related to application of Lean Systemin manufacturing environment. The article is made to provide clear insight and comparisons on various terms used incontemporary academicjournals, booksand published theseson the subject of Lean System. This review realizes that the term Lean Manufacturing was more popular among Malaysian and Asian countries, while Lean Production was mostly used by American scholars. From this review, readers also might learn that Lean System and Toyota Production System are not really the same system due to a missing principle. The presentreview is concluded with visual explanation regarding several major jargons in Lean System.
Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) is gaining wide acceptance by many state’s governments in Malaysia due to its potential to create a liveable neighbourhood with enhanced mobility. Therefore, this study aims to assess the impact of TOD on the residents’ quality of life in Malaysia northern states. The data for this study were gathered from a survey on 360 residents who used the Northern KTM commuter train service. Descriptive and inferential statistics including chi-square test and PLS-SEM technique was performed to analyse the data and produce the findings. The findings of this study shown that there were significant differences in travel behaviour patterns (companions, frequencies, and walking durations) with respect to respondents’ travel purposes. Moreover, it was revealed that land-use diversity and walkable design as important TOD principles that contribute to their quality of life. The findings of this research would serve as a base but critical information to direct future National Estate Development Plan.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
