Purpose: To determine the prevalence of depression, review some variables that are believed to be associated and assess the relationships between depression and sexual quality of life in postmenopausal women.Design and Methods: This is a cross-sectional study conducted on postmenopausal women in Ankara, Turkey from February to June 2020. The study group consisted of 242 postmenopausal women. The Beck Depression Inventory and Sexual Quality of Life Questionnaire were used to assess the level of depression and sex life, respectively. Online questionnaire forms (Google Form) prepared by using the literature in line with the study objective were completed by the women online. Independent t-test, analysis of variance, Tukey's test, and Pearson's correlation analysis were used for statistical analyses. Statistical significance was accepted as p ≤ 0.05. Findings:The of women was found to be 52.64 (±6.245) years and the average menopause age was found to be 47.81 (±4.039) years in this study. The mean score obtained by the women from the Beck Depression Inventory was 13.04 (±7.82). It was determined that the women showed "mild depressive symptoms" mostly. As for the women's sexual quality of life, the mean score obtained from the Sexual Quality of Life Questionnaire was 61.32 (±14.70). A statistically significant and moderate negative correlation was detected between the mean scores obtained by the women from the Beck Depression Inventory and the Sexual Quality of Life Questionnaire (r = −0.305; p < 0.01).Practice Implications: It was determined in the study that sexual quality of life is affected by menopause negatively and the women had mild depressive symptoms.Depression among postmenopausal women is an important women's health problem that should be addressed. A negative correlation was found between depression and sexual quality of life. Early diagnosis and treatment of menopause as well as activities for raising awareness among postmenopausal women will be effective in improving quality of life.
This study was conducted in order to determine the breast cancer worry of women in 15-49 aged and the factors that affect their healthy lifestyle behaviors. Materials and Methods: This descriptive research, which was conducted with 425 women who were registered in the Family Health Center in a province located in Kahramanmaraş. The data of the research were obtained by using Personal Information Form, Breast Cancer Worry Scale and Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors Scale II. Results: Total score averages of women from Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors Scale II and Breast Cancer Worry Scale are 142.73±26.3, 8.60±5.1, respectively. A statistically significant difference was determined in terms of total median score of Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors Scale between the age groups of women, their education statuses, birth control methods, menopause statuses, acknowledging and performing statuses of Self Breast Examination, having mammography statuses and having cancer history in the family. Conclusion:In this research, it was determined that breast cancer worry of women is low and their healthy lifestyle behaviors are above average, further, it was determined that breast cancer worry and healthy lifestyle behaviors of women are affected by many socio-demographic variables. Amaç: Bu araştırma 15-49 yaş kadınlarda meme kanseri endişesi ve sağlıklı yaşam biçimi davranışlarını etkileyen faktörleri belirlemek amacıyla yürütülmüştür. Gereç ve Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı tipte bu araştırma Kahramanmaraş ilinde bir bölgede bulunan üç Aile Sağlığı Merkezi'ne kayıtlı 425 kadın ile yürütülmüştür. Araştırma verileri kişisel bilgi formu, Meme Kanseri Endişe Skalası ve Sağlıklı Yaşam Biçimi Davranışları Ölçeği II kullanılarak elde edilmiştir. Bulgular: Kadınların Sağlıklı Yaşam Biçimi Davranışları Ölçeği ve Meme Kanseri Endişe Skalası toplam puan ortalaması sırasıyla; 142.73±26.3, 8.60±5.1'dir. Kadınların yaş grupları, eğitim durumları, kullanılan doğum kontrol yöntemleri, menopoza girme durumları, Kendi Kendine Meme Muayenesi'ni bilme ve yapma durumları, mamografi çektirme durumları ve ailede kanser öyküsü olma durumları arasında Sağlıklı Yaşam Biçimi Davranışları Ölçeği ortanca puanları açısından istatistiksel olarak anlamlı farklılık saptanmıştır Sonuç: Bu araştırmada kadınların meme kanseri endişelerinin düşük ve sağlıklı yaşam biçimi davranışlarının orta düzeyin üzerinde olduğu, ayrıca kadınların meme kanseri endişelerinin ve sağlıklı yaşam biçimi davranışlarının pek çok sosyo-demografik değişkenden etkilendiği saptanmıştır.
Objective: This study was conducted to determine the attitudes among the women towards prevention and early diagnosis of cervical cancer. Method:The universe of this descriptive research was composed of 842 women. A sampling from the target population was not carried out. The sample of the study consisted of 343 women who met the inclusion criteria. The data were collected by using Personal Information Form, The Attitudes Towards Prevention of Cervical Cancer Scale (APCCS) and The Attitudes Towards Early Diagnosis of Cervical Cancer Scale (AEDCCS). Findings:The mean age of the women was 37,36±0.4 years, 42,6 % of them were academicians. The means of women's APCCS and AEDCCS scores were 85,28±12.9 and 77,49±11.2, respectively. When the correlation between the two scales was examined, a negative significant difference was found (p<0.05). Conclusion:In the study, the attitudes among the women towards the prevention of cervical cancer and its early diagnosis were found to be above medium level. Besides, as the attitudes of women towards the protection from cervical cancer improved, their attitudes towards early diagnosis decreased.
