El trabajo realizo una reflexión sobre la autonomía y la calidad educativa, para lograr una mejor comprensión acerca de la forma en que el desarrollo de la autonomía institucional se relaciona con el desafío de promover una cultura de la calidad. El creciente interés en una cultura de calidad ha creado una especie de "vacío de gobernanza", en el sentido de que el enfoque del autogobierno está en la rendición de cuentas y la rendición de cuentas en lugar de la maniobrabilidad que las universidades necesitan para estimular el crecimiento de una cultura genuina de calidad en sus instituciones. El método utilizado es de abordaje cualitativo, mediante un análisis bibliográfico. La conclusión es que tanto la autonomía como la calidad deben desarrollarse juntas, en armonía de modo que favorezcan nueva propuesta en el logro de la enseñanza aprendizaje.
El proceso de autoevaluación permite a la institución educativa asumir su realidad con relación a los criterios de calidad, esa calidad tiene que estar conjugada en todo momento con la pertinencia y el impacto y debe promover y estimular la mejora continua, con el empleo de estrategias, procedimientos, recursos apropiados, ambiente institucional favorable y el apoyo de las autoridades de la institución para llevar adelante con éxito el proceso. En este artículo, se analizó el papel de la autoevaluación con miras a la acreditación y como proceso de reflexión, análisis y toma de decisiones en la educación superior y para el logro del objetivo propuesto se procedió a una revisión bibliográfica de la literatura especializada, la misma permitió identificar que, el rol de la autoevaluación implica un proceso de reflexión, análisis y toma de decisiones que se lleva a cabo en la comunidad educativa de forma autónoma y colectiva, con el objeto de examinar, de qué forma la institución educativa se orienta hacia el cumplimiento de los objetivos propuesto en el proyecto educativo institucional y aprovechar las fortalezas o enfrentar las debilidades encontradas.
