The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of journal writing on achievement of 8th grade students on the surface area and volume of geometric solids and on geometry self-efficacy. The study was carried out with 40 8th grade students at a public school in Eagean Region. One group with 20 students was assigned as the experimental group and the other 20 student-group was assigned as the control group. Different from the control group Experimental group engaged in journal writing activities on the surface area and volume of geometric solids. In the study, two achievement tests [Surface Area of Geometric Solids Test (SGST) and Volume of Geometric Solids Test (VGST)] were used to measure the gain scores of students and self-efficacy of students towards geometry was evaluated by self-efficacy towards geometry scale which was developed by Cantürk-Günhan and Başer (2007). The tools were administered as pre-test and post-test. The data of the study were analyzed by Mann Whiney-U test and The Wilcoxon Matched-Pairs Signed-Ranks Test by using SPSS 16 packaged software. The results of the study suggest that achievement of the students on the surface area and volume of geometric solids and the self-efficacy of the students towards geometry in each group differed significantly.

This report summarises a study examining preservice elementary teachers' geometry content knowledge with a focus on parallelogram. It was a descriptive study examining 45 preservice teachers' reasoning in the process of determining which quadrilateral can be classified as a parallelogram. Findings have revealed that these elementary teachers do not possess sound understanding of parallelogram and class inclusion between parallelogram and trapezoid at the expected level.

Bu çalışmanın amacı sınıf öğretmeni adaylarının ilköğretim matematik dersi programı geometri içeriği konusundaki hazırbulunuşluklarını, geometri özyeterlikleri, geometriye yönelik tutumlarını ve geometri düşünme düzeylerini belirlemektir. Çalışma kapsamında Türkiye'nin tüm coğrafi bölgelerinden son sınıf okumakta olan sınıf öğretmeni adaylarına ulaşılmıştır. Bu amaçla belirlenen 19 üniversiteden toplam 1730 öğretmen adayından veri toplanmıştır. Veriler öğretmen adaylarının geometriye yönelik hazırbulunuşluklarının ve geometrik düşünme düzeylerinin düşük olduğunu göstermiştir. Ayrıca öğretmen adaylarının geometriye yönelik özyeterlikleri ve geometriye yönelik tutumları orta düzeydedir. Kadın öğretmen adayları çember, düzlem ve geometrik cisimler alt öğrenme alanlarında ve geometri hazırbulunuşluk testinin genelinde erkek öğretmen adaylarına göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlı düzeyde daha başarılıdırlar.
