The aim of this study is to employ the Pirie-Kieren model so as to examine the understandings relating to the domain of multivariable functions held by primary school mathematics preservice teachers. The data obtained was categorized according to Pirie-Kieren model and demonstrated visually in tables and bar charts. The study group consisted of forty sophomore primary school mathematics preservice teachers during the process of their education at a state university in Turkey. The data were collected via a test consisting of open-ended questions prepared by the researchers of the study. The findings demonstrated that preservice teachers submitted answers predominantly at the "property noticing" stage as defined by the Pirie-Kieren model. In addition, answers by participants were also encountered within the "image making" and "image having" stages of the model.

The purpose of this study is to examine the number sense regarding the percent of middle school students. The sample of the study consists of a total of 454 Turkish students of 5 th , 6 th and 7 th grade level from four different middle schools located in Kırıkkale, Turkey. The data were collected using the Test of Number Sense Regarding Percent developed by the researchers considering the components of number sense. These components are flexibility in the calculation, visual representation and the using benchmark (reference points). In the analysis of the data, students' strategies while solving percent problems were examined and analyzed using the method of descriptive analysis. As a result of the study, it was found that the number sense of the students regarding percent were very weak. The students, in general, tend to use rule-based algorithms based on memorization instead of using number sense while solving percent problems. The students preferred operational ways that took much more time even in problems related to estimation or finding an approximate value, instead of practical solutions.

In this study, it was examined achievement in middle school students' number sense and its sub-dimensions according to various variables. Number sense means that people can make logical estimates about various uses area, be able to recognize arithmetic errors and number patterns, to choose the most effective way of calculation. Number Sense Scale consists of three dimensions: Flexibility in Calculation, Conceptual Thinking in Fractions, and Using Benchmark (reference points). Unrelated samples t-test, one-way Anova, two-way Anova, and Kruskal-Wallis analyzes were used to determine whether students' achievements in total and sub-dimensions of number sense scale differed significantly in terms of gender and grade levels. From findings obtained from the research, there was no meaningful difference in the students' achievement in numerical sense total and sub-dimensions in terms of gender and in using benchmark (reference points) in terms of grade level. However, there was a meaningful difference in the number sense total, flexibility in calculation and conceptual thinking in fractions scores. It has been determined that this is in favor of 8th grade students.
