Introducción: los efectos del estrés académico se encuentran mediados por las estrategias de afrontamiento de los estudiantes. Sin embargo, existe poca evidencia acerca de la asociación entre los diferentes perfiles de afrontamiento y las respuestas psicofisiológicas de estrés. El objetivo de la presente investigación es analizar la variabilidad de las respuestas psicofisiológicas de estrés en función del perfil de afrontamiento activo que presenta el estudiante universitario. Método: participaron en el estudio 1195 estudiantes universitarios, el 71% mujeres, con una edad media de 21.57 años (DT=3.63). Se administró la escala de afrontamiento de estresores (ACEA) y la escala de respuestas de estrés (RCEA) del cuestionario de estrés académico. Resultados: un quick cluster clasificó a los estudiantes en 4 grupos. Dos de los grupos mostraron un alto grado de afrontamiento activo (afrontamiento activo [AA] y afrontamiento activo y social [AAS]), mientras que los otros dos reportaron niveles bajos (afrontamiento social [AS] y bajo afrontamiento activo y social [BAS]). El ANOVA mostró que los estudiantes que emplean estrategias de afrontamiento activo (AA y AAS) informan de menores respuestas psicofisiológicas de estrés en comparación aquellos con bajo nivel de afrontamiento activo (AS y BAS), tanto físicas (agotamiento físico y alteraciones del sueño), como conductuales (irascibilidad) y cognitivas (intrusión de pensamientos negativos). La función mediadora del apoyo social se muestra importante únicamente entre los grupos con niveles bajos de afrontamiento activo (AS y BAS). Conclusión: los programas de prevención e intervención en el estrés académico deberían tener en cuenta estas diferencias en su diseño e implementación.
El objetivo de este estudio es identificar los diferentes perfiles de regulación emocional presentes en una muestra de estudiantes universitarios y analizar si entre los perfiles identificados existen diferencias en la percepción de estresores académicos y en las respuestas psicofisiológicas de estrés. Participaron 504 estudiantes de fisioterapia de diferentes universidades españolas, el 74% de sexo femenino y con una edad promedio de 21.06 ± 3.74 años a los que se les administró la Escala de Dificultades en la Regulación Emocional (DERS) y el Cuestionario de Estrés Académico (escala de estresores [ECEA] y escala de respuesta [RCEA]). El análisis de conglomerados identificó tres perfiles de regulación: alta regulación emocional, baja regulación emocional y baja regulación emocional con alta atención. Se obtuvieron diferencias estadísticamente significativas entre los diferentes perfiles tanto para la percepción de estresores como para las respuestas psicofisiológicas de estrés. Los estudiantes con un perfil de alta regulación emocional percibieron en menor medida el entorno académico como amenazante y experimentaron con menor frecuencia manifestaciones psicofisiológicas de estrés. Los estudiantes con perfiles de baja regulación y baja regulación con alta atención emocional mostraron resultados similares, a excepción de las alteraciones del sueño. En conclusión, los estudiantes de fisioterapia con elevadas puntuaciones en control y aceptación de sus estados emocionales perciben las circunstancias académicas de forma más adaptativa y experimentan menores respuestas de estrés.
Los elevados niveles de estrés académico y la prevalencia de sintomatología depresiva entre los estudiantes universitarios de ciencias de la salud representan cuestiones de especial preocupación para la universidad y los sistemas sanitarios. El objetivo del presente trabajo es analizar la relación entre la presencia de sintomatología depresiva y la percepción de diferentes estresores académicos. Así, se diseñó un estudio en el que participaron 485 estudiantes de fisioterapia de distintas universidades españolas. Se empleó la subescala de depresión de la Lista de Comprobación de Síntomas-90-R (Symptom Check List-90-Revised) y la escala de estresores (ECEA) del Cuestionario de Estrés Académico con el objetivo de medir la percepción de diferentes condiciones académicas en términos estresantes. Los resultados mostraron que los estudiantes que perciben el entorno académico en términos más amenazantes muestran un mayor índice de sintomatológica depresiva. Esta relación parece presentar una mayor relevancia en el caso del grupo altamente estresado, y en concreto para aquellas condiciones relacionadas con las creencias de rendimiento, el clima social negativo, los exámenes y la sobrecarga académica. Estos hallazgos enfatizan la importancia identificar entre los estudiantes de fisioterapia aquellos con un mayor riesgo para desarrollar síntomas depresivos durante su formación.
