On traite communément la philosophie et l'action politique de Russell en des ouvrages séparés, sous la plume d'auteurs différents. Il y a sans doute de bonnes raisons à cela. Russell n'a pas cherché à donner à l'ensemble de sa pensée la belle unité de celle des classiques, ou à faire coïncider à tout prix sa philosophie et son éthique-en cela, il est vraiment moderne. En politique et en éthique, le philosophe doit faire preuve de «témérité », parce qu'il n'est pas possible d'y mener à terme l'analyse des raisons. Enfin, Russell n'a pas consacré le même soin à ces deux aspects de son oeuvre. Ses ouvrages théoriques donnent lieu à un constant travail, et ils sont toujours l'une des sources les plus importantes de la philosophie analytique contemporaine-les articles qui précèdent en font foi; mais on se réfère au penseur politique plus généralement pour sa liberté d'esprit et d'action, comme exemple de l'engagement d'un philosophe. La Revue n'a pas cru bon de suivre simplement cette interprétation toute tracée de l'oeuvre. Cette interprétation est sans doute juste dans la mesure des traits qui viennent d'être esquissés, mais elle reste à bien des égards partielle. S'il n'y a pas d'unité simple à cette philosophie, il y a des jeux de distinctions et de niveaux qui se répètent dans tous les domaines, il y a une pensée des relations entre les disciplines, et il y a aussi des raisons théoriques pour lesquelles les arguments politiques ne sont que peu élaborés philosophiquement. Et partout, on peut comprendre ces différences comme celles qui ont été posées par le logicien. C'est pourquoi cette seconde partie tente de mettre en évidence les relations entre les différents aspects de l'oeuvre de Russell,-sans vouloir pour autant formuler une « unité » qui n'existerait

Crise pandémique et éthique de la recherche Les efforts de recherche autour de la pandémie de Covid-19 sont considérables, et peut-être sans précédent. Sur la seule année 2020, les études convergent pour donner le chiffre de 250 000 publications, toutes disciplines confondues, sur le seul sujet Covid-19, soit 4 % de l'ensemble des articles de l'année et 10 % des articles en prépublication (preprint). Temps d'évaluation des publications (reviewing) significativement réduits 1 , dépôts de prépublications en archives ouvertes en très forte augmentation 2 , l'appel à la science ouverte, largement relayé ces dernières années par les institutions de recherche, a pris la forme d'une expérimentation concrète dans cette crise. Aussi, et de façon inattendue, la science aura été pendant plusieurs mois au coeur de l'actualité politique et du débat public, pas simplement en tant que productrice de résultats stabilisés mais surtout comme processus hésitant et pluriel de construction de connaissances. C'est pourquoi, cette crise pandémique, dans tout ce qu'elle exprime de dysfonctionnements au sein de nos systèmes économiques et sociaux, a aussi été une formidable mise à l'épreuve des potentialités d'implication de la science et, d'une certaine façon, l'occasion d'une rencontre plus intime avec celle-ci.
