OBJETIVO: Verificar, em uma amostra de escolares de uma região de baixo nível socioeconômico, a prevalência de sobrepeso e obesidade. MÉTODOS: Estudo transversal com uma amostra de 218 crianças selecionadas de modo aleatório, a partir de um universo estimado de 1.500 crianças e adolescentes, com idade entre seis e 14 anos, provenientes de três escolas de ensino fundamental de Parelheiros, São Paulo, sem distinção de sexo ou etnia. Foram excluídas aquelas portadoras de qualquer doença metabólica ou endócrina diagnosticada ou em tratamento. Os indivíduos foram submetidos à avaliação antropométrica, com medida do peso corporal e altura para cálculo do índice de massa corpórea e relação peso/altura. Todas as crianças responderam a um questionário aplicado pelos pesquisadores sobre hábitos alimentares. RESULTADOS: A prevalência de obesos e de portadores de sobrepeso foi respectivamente 14,7 e 16,5%. Entre os alunos obesos e com sobrepeso, o baixo consumo de frutas (10,8 e 10,8%), de verduras e legumes (16,4 e 9,1%) e o alto consumo de doces (72,2 e 78,1%) foram associados ao excesso de peso. A prática esportiva esteve ausente ou escassa nos obesos (81,3%) e portadores de sobrepeso (77,8%). CONCLUSÕES: Os alunos avaliados, embora provenientes de uma região pobre de São Paulo, apresentaram um perfil de transição nutricional, com altas taxas de obesidade e sobrepeso.

The cyanoacrylate promoted a reliable fallopian tube obstruction without fibrosis in an animal model exhibiting a similar tube diameter to that found in women. The technique can be evaluated for efficacy in vivo using hysterosalpingography.

Purpose:To develop a project of hyperbaric chamber that allows its safe and reliable use in veterinary and animal experimentation. Methods: Based on the technical specifications for the construction of hyperbaric chambers for human beings, it has been developed a design of a chamber with dimensions and characteristics for the use of a midsize animal, (dog or pig), as well as a multiple chamber for the use in small animals (mice, rats, hamsters, rabbits or cats). The technical specifications allowed that the chamber could be used both for veterinary use and for use in experiments on Health Sciences. Results: A chamber with the following characteristics was built: ASTM A36 steel for the manufacture of the master cylinder and rear cover; front door built in 5052 aluminum; internal diameter of 50.5 cm and 83.0 cm in length; weight 160Kg and internal area of 150cm 3 ; internal space to accommodate 2 acrylic baskets; 150mm high, 280mm wide and 690mm in length. It was capable of supporting a maximum of hydrostatic pressure test of 3.0 to 4.0 BAR ACT and maximum working pressure of 2.0 BAR or 3.0 ACT; equipped with security devices and valves that triggers with load of 2.2 BAR or 3.2 ACT. Tests for engineering and biological use on animals showed the effectiveness of the device. Conclusion: The development of the project enabled the construction of a hyperbaric chamber with security features and reliability comparable to those required by the legal and technical specifications of a hyperbaric chamber human use. Veterinary Medicine RESUMO Objetivo: Desenvolver um projeto de câmara hiperbárica que permita o seu uso seguro e confiável em veterinária e em animais de experimentação de pequeno e médio porte. Métodos: Baseados em especificações técnicas de construção de câmaras hiperbáricas de seres humanos, foi desenvolvido uma adaptação de projeto de uma câmara com dimensões e características para uso em animal de médio porte (cão ou porco), assim como câmara múltipla para animais de pequeno porte (camundongos, ratos, hamsters, coelhos ou gatos). O atendimento às especificações técnicas deve permitir a sua utilização tanto para uso veterinário quanto para uso em experimentação em Ciências da Saúde. Resultados: Uma câmara com as seguintes características foi construída: aço ASTM A36 para a confecção do cilindro principal e tampo traseiro, tampo frontal (porta) construído em alumínio 5052, diâmetro interno de 50,5cm e 83,0cm de comprimento; peso de 160Kg e espaço interno de 150cm 3 ; espaço para acomodar 2 cestas de acrílico de 150mm de altura, 280mm de largura e 690mm de comprimento; capacidade para suportar um máximo de pressão hidrostática teste de 3,0BAR ou 4,0 ACT e uma pressão máxima de trabalho de 2,0 BAR ou 3,0 ACT; equipado com dispositivos e válvulas de segurança que disparam com carga de 2,2 BAR ou 3,2 ACT. PURPOSE:To evaluate the morphology, necrotic area and collagen content in skin flaps of rats subjected to hyperbaric oxygenation (HBO). METHODS:Forty adult rats were divided into four groups: GEC -epilated; GE/HBO -epilated subjected to HBO; GER -epilated submitted to skin flap (2 cm in width /8 cm length in the dorsal area) and GER/HBO -epilated, subjected to skin flap and HBO. HBO (2.4 ATA) was performed for two hours during seven consecutive days. In the eighth day, the rats were anesthetized and the skin flaps were removed and separated into three portions, relative to pedicle fixation. The material fixed in 10% formalin was processed for paraffin embedding; sections were stained by H.E and subjected to picrosirius-red method. The slides examined under light microscopy for evaluation of the collagen content in polarized light microscope and ImageLab ® software (Bio-Rad). RESULTS:The data showed larger area of necrosis and lower levels of collagen in the three regions of the GER group, whereas in the GER/HBO group the collagen content was similar to the GEC and GE/HBO groups. CONCLUSION:Hyperbaric oxygenation reduced the area of necrosis and preserved the morphology and collagen content in skin flaps of rats.

Purpose:To investigate the effectiveness of fibrin glue (laparoscopic via) into promote the hemostasis of a spleen injury on a heparinized porcine model. Methods: Eighteen Landrace porcine were submitted to laparoscopic spleen injury and randomly distributed: GHA (heparin plus adhesive), GH (heparin without adhesive) and GS (Sham -without heparin or adhesive). Ten minutes before the surgical procedures a single IV dose (200UI/kg) of heparin sodium was administrated only to groups GHA and GH. In the GHA, adhesive was applied after the mechanical injury and recorded the time until the polymerization and clot formation. Results: No significant differences occurred among the groups (Fisher test) considering the weight and surgery time. The blood amount in the abdominal cavity on GH was significantly higher in comparison to the sham group and especially with the GHA (p<0.004). No significant differences were observed in the body temperature, heart rate, cardiac output, means arterial pressure, pulmonary artery pressure during the experiment. The activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) was lower in the GHA in comparison to GH (p<0.003). Conclusion: The fibrin biological adhesive applied by laparoscopy is effective for hemostasis of minor spleen injury in a porcine model under the effect of anticoagulant drug. RESUMO Objetivo:Investigar a eficácia da cola de fibrina (via laparoscópica) na hemostasia de uma lesão no baço de porco heparinizado. Métodos: Dezoito suínos Landrace foram submetidos a lesão do baço e distribuídos aleatoriamente: GHA (heparina adesivo), GH (heparina sem adesivo) e GS (Sham -sem heparina ou adesivo). Dez minutos antes dos procedimentos uma dose única (200UI/kg) de heparina sódica (EV) foi administrada nos grupos GHA e GH. A fibrina (GHA) foi aplicada após a lesão e registrado o tempo até a polimerização e formação do coágulo. Resultados: Não houve diferenças significativas entre os grupos (teste de Fisher), considerando o peso e o tempo de cirurgia. A quantidade de sangue na cavidade abdominal de GH foi significativamente maior em comparação ao GS e, especialmente, com o GHA (p<0,004). Não foram observadas diferenças significativas na temperatura corporal, frequência cardíaca, débito cardíaco, pressão arterial ou pressão da artéria pulmonar durante o experimento (20 minutos). O tempo de tromboplastina parcial ativada (TTPA) foi menor no GHA em relação ao GH (p<0,003). Conclusão: A cola de fibrina biológica aplicada por laparoscopia é eficaz para a hemostasia de lesões no baço menor em um modelo suíno sob o efeito de drogas anticoagulantes.
