Com a intenção de articular a história e o ensino de matemática por meio de uma interface entre esses dois campos, escolheu-se o tratado The description and vse of the Sector, the Crosse-staffe, and other instruments, for such as are studious of Mathematicall practise, especificamente, selecionando como recurso a escala dos números inscrita no Cross-staff, apresentado nesse documento.
Neste artigo, apropriou-se da escala dos números elaborada por Edmund Gunter (1581 – 1626) apresentada no tratado The description and vse of the Sector, the Crosse-staffe, and other instruments, for such as are studious of Mathematicall practise publicado em 1623 para a construção de uma interface.
