ABSTRACT:The quality of life of caregivers is a concern because it directly affects the quality of life of individuals dependent on such care. This study aimed to analyze and compare the quality of life in health of caregivers of people with special needs who attend a rehabilitation facility. Ninety caregivers of people with special needs who attend a rehabilitation facility participated in this study. For data collection two instruments were used: a questionnaire to determine the profile of the caregiver and the person with special needs and the WHOQOL-Bref questionnaire to measure quality of life. The results were significant only between the caregiver's quality of life in the physical domain and age of the person with special needs, indicating that the older a person with special needs, the more difficult and arduous is the act of caring. The result can indicate guidelines for caring for families of people with disabilities.
The study aimed to analyze the impact of school participation on quality of life of Brazilian children with cerebral palsy. Participants of the study were primary caregivers of children with CP: 39 caregivers of children not attending regular or special school and 74 caregivers of children attending regular or special school. Children with CP, including males and females, were between 4 and 12 years old. Data collection was carried out through individual interviews and application of the questionnaire Cerebral Palsy Quality of Life Questionnaire for Children CP QOL-Child (4–12 years). There was a significant difference in quality of life between the group of children attending school and the group not attending school for the Functioning Domains (p=0.0014), participation and physical health (p=0.0277) and emotional well-being (p=0.05). The worst score was obtained for the pain and impact of disability domain and impact of disability for both groups. We also found significant difference in the distribution of quality of life between genders. The results indicated that the opportunity to experience school has a positive impact on the quality of life of children with cerebral palsy in relation to functioning, participation and physical health and emotional well-being, regardless of gender and age.

AbstractThe aim of this study was to verify the reliability of the Brazilian Portuguese version of the instrumentCerebral Palsy: quality of life questionnaire for children: primary caregiver questionnaire (CP QOLChild: primary caregiver) translated and culturally adapted. Thus, the translation and cultural adaptation of the instrument was made, and then the procedures to verify its reliability were performed. The translated and culturally adapted questionnaire was answered by 30 caregivers of children with cerebral palsy and inter-and intra-observer analysis followed. The data allowed the authors to identify an internal consistency rangering from 0.649 to 0.858, intra-observer reliability from 0.625 to 0.809 and inter-observer reliability from 0.498 to 0.903. The analysis suggests that the instrument has acceptable psychometry.
crianças e adolescentes do Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
