Simvastatin treatment, in addition to the improvement on serum lipid profile, may reduce other predictors of cardiovascular events associated with periodontitis.
Septic shock, which is triggered by microbial products, is mainly characterised by inadequate tissue perfusion, which can lead to multiple organ dysfunction and death. An intense release of vasoconstrictors agents occurs in the early stages of shock, which can lead to ischemic injury. In this scenario, cGMP could play a key role in counterbalancing these agents and preventing tissue damage. Sildenafil, which is a phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor, increases cGMP in smooth muscle cells and promotes vasodilation. Thus, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of treatment with sildenafil in the early stages of sepsis. Male rats were submitted to either cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) or a sham procedure. Eight h after the procedure, the CLP and sham groups were randomly assigned to receive sildenafil (10mg/kg, gavage) or vehicle, and twelve or twenty-four h later the inflammatory, biochemical and haemodynamic parameters were evaluated. Sepsis significantly increased levels of plasma nitrate/nitrite (NOx), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), urea, creatinine, creatine kinase and lactate. Additionally, sepsis led to hypotension, hyporesponsiveness to vasoconstrictor, renal blood flow reduction and also increased lung and kidney myeloperoxidase. Sildenafil increased renal blood flow and reduced the plasma levels of creatinine, lactate and creatine kinase, as well as reducing lung myeloperoxidase. Thus, phosphodiesterase inhibition may be a useful therapeutic strategy if administered at the proper time.
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of aqueous extract of Paullinia cupana (AEG) against ketoprofen side effects, through biochemical, hematological, and histological parameters. AEG showed antioxidant activity in the DPPH • scavenging (IC 50 = 17.00 ± 1.00 µg/ml) and HPLC analysis revealed that this extract is constituted by antioxidants (caffeine, catechins, theobromine, and polyphenols). In vivo experiments in female Wistar rats demonstrated that alterations in urea, creatinine, and uric acid levels promoted (p < .05) by ketoprofen were reversed when AEG was co-administered. Ketoprofen significantly decreased the catalase levels of animal tissues (p < .05), which were restored when AEG was co-administered with the mentioned drug. Histological analysis showed that AEG protected tissues from damages caused by ketoprofen. Moreover, AEG reestablished the number of white blood cells, which had decreased when ketoprofen was administered. In conclusion, this study suggested that the association between ketoprofen and AEG may be an alternative to reduce health damages caused by this drug. Practical applications Paullinia cupana, popularly known as guaraná, is commonly consumed as a beverage in Brazil and exhibits pharmacological and beneficial effects to humans. Ketoprofen is an efficacious drug employed in the treatment of inflammatory processes. However, this drug can cause several side effects in humans. Thus, the usage of natural products and plant extracts that can reduce such undesirable effects consists in a valuable strategy to be applied in therapeutic interventions.
Digital Culture is conceived as all kinds of knowledge, habits, values and skills acquired by human beings that are built and shared in the digital environment. In this sense, the collection Digital Culture in the Educational Context: a view between trends and challenges for the 21st century brings relevant theoretical and empirical notes around what the National Common Curricular Base – BNCC – whose competence is to stimulate the critical use of technological resources, inserting both educators and students in pedagogical practices in order to learn and dominate the digital universe. The first part of the work is dedicated to Theoretical Approaches, bringing notes about Media Education with the pandemic period and what has impacted the educational scenario, both in student learning and in the performance of teaching professionals. Therefore, the reader is asked: If remote education is educational chloroquine? It also brings relevant considerations about Information and Communication Technologies applied to Distance Education and Hybrid Education, such as: Literacy in Mathematics, as well as the use of computers and gamification combined with education. Finally, with the Digital Universe, it brings an alert regarding the impacts of cyberbullying. Entitled Narratives of Experiences, the second part of the collection covers various teaching experiences with respect to the Digital Age. Among them, in elementary school, it brings challenges in the process of Literacy and Literacy practices and the teaching perception in relation to Specialized Educational Service. Considerations are made about various pedagogical resources in times of adversity. Among them: the Youtube channel of storytelling, collaborating with the reinvention of teachers in Elementary Education; and, in Higher Education, the relevance of Hybrid Education the joint application of Sole and the Google Classroom. In addition to the teaching experience, finally, testimony of the dilemmas and challenges of managerial activity in the school segment of Early Childhood Education are brought up
Efluentepapeleiro.
