The revival of non-conventional edible plants enables important gains in nutritional, social, cultural, economic, and environmental points of view. Among them, sorrel-Rumex acetosa L.-has been deemed pleasant by consumers due to its acid taste. As we do not have a lot of phytotechnical and nutritional information about this plant, the objective was to assess the influence of different spacing sets and cattle manure dosages on their physical-chemical characteristics and bioactive compounds content with antioxidant action. Randomized blocks with four repetitions was chosen as experimental design, using a scheme of subdivided plots, with five dosages of weather-beaten cattle manure in the plots and two sets of spacing in the subplots. Data was submitted to a variance analysis with two factors (two-way ANOVA). It was not verified any significant effect (P>0.05) in the interaction Dosage x Spacing. Fertilization dosages and spacing sets did not have any effect on color and total soluble solids average contents, humidity, titratable acidity, and phenolic compounds. Increasing dosages of organic fertilizer, up to 75 kg ha-1 , reduced the plant's pH; above that amount, pH rose. Presence of anthocyanins and vitamin C was not detected. The total carotenoids average content was not influenced by the manure factor, and the plant presented greater total carotenoids content in the smallest spacing. Antioxidant activity [1.0 mg mL-1 ], although inferior to the standards that were used (BHT, vitamin C and quercetin), was quite representative. A conclusion was reached that fertilizing with weather-beaten cattle manure had an effect only on pH, and cropping spacing had an influence only on carotenoids content. Other phytochemicals and physical-chemical characteristics were not influenced in sorrel plants with different levels of fertilization and sets of spacing.
In this paper, a new distribution called the exponentiated Kumaraswamy inverse Weibull is proposed. This distribution includes as special cases the inverse exponential, inverse Weibull, inverse Rayleigh and exponentiated inverse Weibull distributions. We study the main properties of this distribution, with special emphasis on its moments and some characteristics related to reliability studies. We also discuss parameter estimation considering the methods of moments and maximum likelihood. An application reveals that the model proposed can be very useful in fitting real data.
In the management of water resources, it is necessary to balance the demands of multiple uses of water and water availability, while enabling use in an environmentally sustainable way. Probability distributions of flow rates are essential tools for assessing water availability. The objectives of this work were to analyze the best probability distribution that conforms to the annual minimum daily average discharge for periods of seven consecutive days (Q7) for 14 stream gauging stations in the Das Velhas River Basin and to identify possible trends in Q7 time series and in bi monthly and annual sets of daily discharges in three key stream gauging stations. The quality of fit was verified by the Anderson-Darling test (A-D). The selection of the models that presented the best fit was done according to the Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC). The Mann-Kendall test was used to verify trends in time series of discharge. In general, better measures of quality of fit were obtained for the probability distributions Gumbel and Rayleigh. Negative trends in discharge distributions were verified in the three stations. For the Várzea da Palma station, the closest to the river mouth, negative and significant trends were found for the Q7 data and daily average discharge for every bimester except the first.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of the packaging system on the useful life and post-harvest quality of lamb’s-ear leaves (Stachys byzantina L.). The sanitized sheets were packaged in four different packaging systems: (A) rigid polyethylene (PET), (B) PET together with ethylene-absorbing sachet, (C) PET wrapped with high barrier plastic film, and (D) PET together with an ethylene-absorbing sachet and wrapped with high barrier plastic film and stored at 7 ° C. Samples for physical-chemical analysis, bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity were removed before storing and at 5, 10 and 15 days of storage. The leaves contained in packages C showed less loss of mass and in system D they showed greater preservation of color attributes (L *, C * and °H). The packaging did not influence the contents of bioactive compounds, which showed higher values at 5 days of storage. The leaves stored in A, B, C and D showed high antioxidant capacity until the 15th day of storage. It was concluded that the quality atrib\utes of the lamb’s-ear leaves were kept in all packaging systems throughout 15 days of cold storage. The contents of bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity showed the highest values up to 5 days of storage at 7 ºC. Thus, considering the economic aspects and practicality in handling, packaging A is the most suitable for refrigerated storage (7 ºC) and commercialization of fresh lamb’s-ear leaves up to 15 days of storage.
In this work, we study the beta exponentiated Lindley distribution which includes as special cases several models such as the Lindley, exponentiated Lindley and beta Lindley distributions. Some structural properties of the proposed distribution are studied including expressions for the moments. The estimation of parameters using the methods of moments and maximum likelihood is also discussed. The flexibility of this distribution is illustrated in an application to a real data set.
