Abstract: This work recognizes the challenge of teaching urban and regional planning, associated with its academic history and the difficulties related to the update of disciplinary and technical fundamentals. With this goal in mind, this work describes impacts observed in this field that were triggered by changes in State actions, in the configuration of social subjects, in the relationship between technique and science, in the work market and in the theory of space. To stimulate further thoughts on the specific task of teaching urban and regional planning, these impacts are analyzed from the following perspectives: didactic practice, interdisciplinary experience, learning expectations, renovation of the field fundamentals, and institutional facilities for teaching. At last, some suggestions are proposed to Anpur hoping to stimulate a debate on the transmission of knowledge as well as the training of new urban planning researchers. The author reports that technological advancements and urban life are responsible for "territory" modernization and for management of social relations. The author analyzes the characteristics of the urbanization process in capitalism in developing countries. This process is known for demographic concentration without access to technology. She discusses this reduced technological incorporation, and more precisely, its unequal distribution which impedes humanization and cultural enrichment of urban life. In addition, the author discusses the impact these transformations have on social life, both on the formation of citizens and on the emergence of new tendencies and challenges to public health KEY WORDS: information technologies; communication; health A autora parte da idéia de que os avanços técnicos e a vida urbana comandam a modernização do território e a administração das relações sociais.
