The purpose of this study was to survey the Angiosperms from an area of Caatinga, in the Grota do Angico Natural Monument, state of Sergipe, Brazil. A total of 174 species and 51 families were registered. Fabaceae (29 species) is the family with the highest number of species, followed by Asteraceae (11), Euphorbiaceae (10), Malvaceae and Poaceae (9 each) and Rubiaceae (8), Bromeliaceae, Cactaceae and Convolvulaceae (7 each). Most species are herbaceous (55.2%), followed by trees (20.7%), shrubs and vines (7.5% each), subshrubs (6.3%), epiphytes (1.7%) and hemiparasites (1.2%). Approximately 17% (30 species) of the flora are endemic to the Caatinga, one species is rare and two are vulnerable. Our results reinforce the importance of conserving the remaining forest vegetation against the anthropic pressure.
-(Diaspore dispersal syndromes of Angiospems in a Protected Area in the Caatinga, Sergipe State, Brazil). The present study aimed to characterize the types of fruits and strategies of propagule dispersal of Angiosperms in the Grota do Angico Natural Monument, municipalities of Canindé de São Francisco and Poço Redondo, Sergipe State, Brasil. The characterization of the fruits and syndromes was based on the analysis of fruits collected in an area of 251 ha. We sampled 24 families and 67 species, the most representative families were Fabaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Bromeliaceae and Cactaceae. There was a prevalence of dry fruits (68.7%) and ten types of fruits were found, being legume, capsule and berry the most common. Abiotic vectors prevailed in the study area (61.2%). The primary dispersal syndromes were autocory (43.3%), followed by zoochory (38.8%) and anemochory (17.9%). The autochory also prevailed in the herbaceous-subshub (52.2%) and woody-shrub (45.7%), however, it showed only a small percentage of difference when compared to zoochory.
-(Floristic survey of the Mata do Junco Wildlife Refuge, Capela, Sergipe State, Brazil). Seeking to expand the floristic studies for the Atlantic rainforest, we herein present, based on field trips (January 2011 to April 2013) and herbarium records, a list of vascular plants found in the Mata do Junco Wildlife Refuge, State of Sergipe, Northeastern Brazil. We registered a total of 380 species, 244 genera and 80 families, with 45 new occurrences for the Atlantic rainforest of the State of Sergipe. The most representative families were Fabaceae (36 species), Cyperaceae (29) and Poaceae (28). Herbs were the most representative regarding habit (167 species or 44%). We found two threatened species: Caesalpinia echinata Lam. and Campylocentrum pernambucense Hoehne, both in the "endangered" category. Overall, the results indicate that the Mata do Junco Wildlife Refuge is floristically similar to other areas of Atlantic rainforest in the State of Sergipe. Moreover, the existence of new records and of a threatened native species reinforces its importance for conservation.
