The models used (Brody, Von Bertalanffy, Gompertz and Logistic models) were fitted by Gauss-Newton method to weight-age data of birth to adult age of Nellore cattle from Brasilia -DF. The adjustment quality was showed by mean square error, adjusted determination coefficient, prediction error, absolute mean deviation residuals, asymptotic weight (A) and maturity rate (k) biological parameters, graphics of observed and estimated weights, of instantaneous and relative growth rate and absolute maturity. The convergence criteria were attained for all nonlinear models. Estimative mean for A and k was 543.40 kg and 0.00138 %/day; 402.00 kg and 0.00323 %/day; 378.00 kg and 0.00410 %/day; and 346.00 kg and 0.00657 %/day for Brody, Von Bertalanffy, Gompertz and Logistic nonlinear models, respectively. Data adjustment for weight-age of the animal provides information describing the growth curve and the future prognostic for animals managed under the same environmental situation. In the period analyzed, Brody nonlinear model was indicated to estimate the body weight of Polled Nellore.
Palavras-chave: Ambiente, correlação, seleção AbstractThis study was carried out to spatialize climatic factors that best discriminate the states of Maranhão, Pará and Tocantins, to analyze the structure of phenotypic correlation between phenotypic variables weights standardized at 120, 210, 365, 450 and 550 days old and propose phenotypic indices for animals selection in these States. The climate variables analyzed were maximum temperature, minimum temperature, average temperature, precipitation, normalized difference vegetative index, humidity, altitude and temperature and humidity index. Univariate and multivariate approach were used by procedures program Statistical Analysis System, SAS, to explain the relationship intra-variables, phenotypic and environmental variation. The expected differences in the progenies (EDPs) were predicted using the software MTDFREML. All climatic and phenotypic variables were effective in discriminating the Maranhão, Pará and Tocantins States. Thus, we suggest the use of phenotypic indices for classification and animals' selection within each State.
Genotype by environment interaction (GxE) studies are of particular interest in Brazil because of the regional diversity of environmental effects and the wide variety of management systems. The present study evaluates GxE effects on 365 d weight (365W) of Nellore cattle raised on pasture in northern Brazil. The analysis utilized random regression techniques to model the reaction norm. Fixed effects consisted of sex, contemporary group, and the covariate of age of cow at calving. The environmental gradient, defined by the concatenation of a bull and the state in which the calf was born, was modelled by second order Legendre polynomials. Direct additive genetic and residual effects were fit as random. Results showed differences in the magnitude of expression of genotype in proportion to decreasing favorability of the environment. As the environment became more unfavorable, the correlation of breeding value to different environments decreased. The correlations between the intercept and the level slope for 365W feature were of moderate magnitude, predominantly indicating the reclassification of sires in different environments. Reaction standard model was coherent from a technical and biological view point and enabled the perception of GxE in the genetic evaluation of Nellore cattle in the states of Maranhão, Pará and Tocantins.
