Design/methodology/approach Data used in the research was primary data obtained from interview and questionnaire, and secondary data obtained from the study of literatures, internet, and company’s documents. The number of respondents in this research was 191. The analysis was done through structural equation modeling (SEM) using the smart partial least square software. Findings The findings of this study showed that TQM implementation had positive influences on employees’ productivity in XYZ. Tool is the most predominant factor in order to achieve a successful TQM implementation in XYZ. Therefore, the XYZ company will need to work on improving the development and management of the tool which has been available to sustain the effectiveness of TQM practices. Research limitations/implications Using a large sample size in the SEM method could improve the results. The implications of this study can be demonstrated through how top managers in this rubber company can improve their employees’ productivity through total quality management practices. Practical implications This research is useful for manufacturing companies in Indonesia, especially in the crumb rubber industry. Originality/value This research used the variable based on the empirical research. TQM was measured using six indicators: human resources, standard, tools, organization, internal audit, and training and education. On the other hand, the work productivity of employees is measured by four indicators: work willingness, work ability, work environment, and work relations.
AbstractHydroponic Green Farming Initiative was executed in Jordan. Wageningen UR Greenhouse Horticulture analysed the present situation at hydroponic farmers with the aim to adapt and to improve where possible and to disseminate results and knowledge to other farmers in training sessions. With large amounts of light the potential yield in protected cultivation is huge. Lack of water might stimulate the use of hydroponics. For this more knowledge is required. Small steps forward can be easily taken by increasing the ventilation rate of traditional tunnels and to collect rainwater to improve the water quality given to the plants (especially in the Highlands) and to save water by using hydroponics. Training of farmers and cooperation between farmers and governmental bodies (research, consultancy) and suppliers are more challenging aspects. The traditional greenhouse single tunnel lacks ventilation capacity, which can be cheaply improved by making a slit of 20 cm after each strip of covering foil. Next steps would be a rolling-up sidewall ventilation with insect netting or a ventilation in the top of the tunnel (butterfly type). ReportinfoIn greenhouse horticulture, a rather poor water quality is used with too much salt and often other harmful elements. As being one of the driest countries in the world there are hardly alternative water sources. However, for changing the traditional growing system in the soil towards hydroponics water quality needs to be improved.First step to get good irrigation water is to harvest rainwater. In Jordan Valley only 250 mm of rain is available on a yearly base, but in the Highlands a substantial amount of 300-600 mm is accessible. Also the use of reverse osmosis water seems to be economical. If a hydroponic growing system is introduced, it can be advised to start with an open system in order to learn all details, after a few years recirculation of used water can be introduced as well. Even in an open system 10-20% water and fertilizers can be saved, while production and quality can be improved. A challenge will be the upgrade of current knowledge of growers. A hyd...
This study aims to investigate the environmental hostility contingencies on the relationship between knowledge management strategy and firm performance. Knowledge management strategies are classified into two dimensions: Codification and Personalization. These studies cover the 192 completed and usable questionnaires were received from respondents which comprises of large size Indonesian manufacturing firms. The result via smartPLS revealed that knowledge management strategies positively and significantly influence the Indonesian manufacturing firm’s performance. Other findings display that environmental turbulences has only the contingency effect (the moderating effect) on the relationship between knowledge management strategy and manufacturing firm performance. Based on findings, the implications and future research also be discussed in this paper.
Inventory control is a very important issue. It is because the amount of inventory will determine or affect the smoothness of the production process as well as the effectiveness and efficiency of the company. PT Semen Padang is a manufacturing company that produces 10,400,000 tons of cement per year. The achievement of the cement production target at this company depends on the availability of raw materials needed in the cement production process itself. Gypsum is an additional material of the cement production process which is very important because it is a raw material that must exist in the process of making cement. So, if the inventory of gypsum cannot meet the needs of production, then the production process of cement making will be disrupted. PT Semen Padang is using the Min-Max method for inventory control. But the costs are quite high. The cost of inventory can be minimized by using another method such as EOQ (Economic Order Quantity). The conclusions of this research are in 2016 by using EOQ method, the optimal order quantity is 32,073 ton per order, and the frequency is 9 times in a year with total cost Rp. 4,757,673,813.48, and in 2017, the optimal order quantity is 34,856 tons per order and the frequency is 9 times in a year with total cost Rp. 9,694,805,608.36.
Rapid technological developments helped bring an increase in the level of business competition. Competitive business strategies required to address the challenges of business competition. PT P&P Lembah Karet is a company engaged in the plantation and crumb rubber processing industry. Marketing area is scattered inside and outside the country led to the supply chain performance become one of the important issues in the company. The use of Lean and Green concept in the supply chain system can become a competitive advantage for PT. P&P Lembah Karet to create a more effective and efficient supply chain strategy in terms of expenditure and environmental impact. Performance measurement is required to determine the effectiveness and efficiency of these two concepts implementation in the supply chain companies.Performance measurement system was developed based on four perspectives of the Balanced Scorecard (BSC): financial, customer, internal business processes, learning and growth. Key Performance Indicator (KPI) which is used as a measurement basis is formulated through the concept of lean and green. The weight value of each KPI is determined using Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) with relevant experts as respondents. Respondents selected based on the experience and knowledge, especially experience and knowledge that relevant with the topic of this research. The weight value determined the order of KPI priority. Face validity is used to validate the performance measurement model. Data processing and analysis yielded 25 lean and green-based KPIs that are relevant to crumb rubber supply chain at PT. P&P Lembah Karet with 3 KPI for financial perspective, 4 KPI for customer perspective, 11 KPI for internal business process perspective and 7 KPI for learning and growth perspective. The structure of designed models showed that customer perspective is the most priority aspects.
In the world of work, health, and safety (WHS) are essential. WHS is an effort to create a safe and healthy workplace to minimize the occurrence of workplace accidents. Companies in manufacturing have a lot of potential risks of work accidents. This research aims to identify the risk of work accidents in the process of manufacturing services. Identification is made that is looking for the highest value of work accident risk, using the FMEA method and looking for factors causing the risk of accidents. The results of the FMEA method carried out on the loading work of unloading cruid oil of PT Grand Kartech, Tbk. There were 45 potential workplace accidents. Potential work accidents that have the highest level of risk are that employees fall into the PIT, with a Risk Priority Number (RPN) value of 25. From these incidents, factors that can cause workplace accidents using the FTA method that has been used there are three factors: human, environmental, and material factors.
