In view of interesting biological and anticancer activity of thienopyrimidine and thioxopyrimidine derivatives and in continuation of investigation in pyridine chemistry, new heterocyclic compounds containing the thieno[2,3-b]pyridine moiety fused with a pyridine, oxazinone, pyrimidinone or triazinone nucleus, are synthesized and seven representative compounds are tested for their biological activity. Compounds (IIa), (IVb), (VIa) and (IX) are identified as agents displaying analgesic, anticonvulsant, or antiparkinsonian activities. Pyridine derivative (VIa) is equipotent or eve more potent than the reference drugs with respect to all biological tests. -(AMR*, A.-G. E.; HEGAB, M. I.; IBRAHIEM, A. A.; ABDULLA, M. M.; Monatsh. scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
