Our results indicate that the greatest egg densities of T. absoluta occur at the edges of tomato crops. These results are discussed in relation to the behavior of T. absoluta distribution within fields and in terms of their implications for improved sampling guidelines and precision targeting control methods that are essential for effective pest monitoring and management. © 2017 Society of Chemical Industry.
-The previous burning of sugarcane straw before harvest causes a series of inconvenients to the environment, specially to the tillage-associated insects. Fire is used to control pests and diseases in the agriculture, however its effect on insect populations is not well understood or documented, mainly on invertebrate groups responsible for nutrient recycling and energy flow. Our objective was to evaluate the effect of controlled burning sugarcane straw on the local insect community. The insects were collected in different dates before and after burning. The species selected for the analysis were affected by fire. Among the 35 taxa collected, 17 were considered more relevant to explain the observed variation in the frequency of species captured through time. In the first sampling after burning, there was a decrease in abundance of five species [Nitidulidae (species 2; Coleoptera), Lutosa brasiliensis (Brunner von Watternwyl) (Orthoptera: Gryllacrididae), Phoridae e Drosophilidae (Diptera) e Labia minor L. (Dermaptera: Labiidae)], among the 17 species selected for analysis. The canonical variate analysis for different sampling dates indicated significant difference between treatments, considering the composition and the species abundance. Despite the different composition of the insect community observed before and after burning, there is a tendency of community recovery to the observed pattern before burning.KEY WORDS: Labia minor, Xyleborus, Nitidulidae, soil trap RESUMO -A queima prévia ao corte dos canaviais causa uma série de inconvenientes ao meio ambiente e em particular à entomofauna associada à cultura. PHYSIOLOGIC SELECTIVITY OF INSETICIDES TO WASPS PREDATORS OF THE COFFEE LEAFMINERABSTRACT -The selectivity of the insecticides chlorpyrifos, deltamethrin, dimethoate, ethion, monocrothophos and permethrin to the predatory wasps Apoica pallens Fab., Brachygastra lecheguana Latreille and Polistes versicolor versicolor Olivier (Hymenoptera: Vespidae) was studied, in laboratory, using 50% and 100% of the dosages used for controlling the coffee leafminer, Perileucoptera coffeella Guérin-Meneville (Lepidoptera: Lyonetiidae). Deltamethrin was selective in favour of P. versicolor versicolor and A. pallens. Ethion showed median selectivity in favour of P. versicolor versicolor and A. pallens and good selectivity to B. lecheguana. The other insecticides were not selective in favour of the predatory wasps. The order of tolerance to deltamethrin was: P. versicolor versicolor > A. pallens > B. lecheguana. To ethion, the order was: B. lecheguana > P. versicolor versicolor > A. pallens. Chlorpyrifos, deltamethrin, dimethoate, monocrothophos and permethrin presented similar toxicity to the wasps in both dosages used. On the other hand ethion reduced its impact on A. pallens and P. versicolor versicolor when applied in subdosages.Index terms: Apoica pallens, Brachygastra lecheguana, Perileucoptera coffeella, Polistes versicolor versicolor, wasps.
SELECTIVITY OF INSECTICIDES TO THREE VESPIDAE PREDATORS OF DIONE JUNO JUNO (LEPIDOPTERA: HELICONIDAE)ABSTRACT -Among insects that attack passion fruit, Dione juno juno (Lepidoptera: Heliconidae) is considered the most dangerous plague. The selectivity of the insecticides fenthion, cartap, malathion and deltamethrin to the predatory wasps Polybia fastidiosuscula, Polybia scutellaris and Protonectarina sylveirae (Hymenoptera: Vespidae) was studied based on these insecticide toxicities to their prey Dione juno juno. Concentration-mortality regression lines were obtained and the estimated lethal concentration of insecticide to 90% (LC 90 ) of the individuals were used for the calculation of the differential selectivity index and tolerance index. Deltamethrin was selective in favor of P. scutellaris and P. fastidiosuscula and showed intermediate selectivity to P. sylveirae, while cartap showed intermediate selectivity to all three species of predatory wasps. Malathion was selectivite to P. sylveirae and showed intermediate selectivity to P. fastidiosuscula. The predatory wasps P. sylveirae and P. fastidiosuscula were more tolerant to cartap than P. scutellaris and P. sylveirae was more tolerant to malathion than P. fastidiosuscula and P. scutellaris.
