International agierende Unternehmen, die in unterschiedlichen Ländermärkten dieselben Unternehmens-und/oder Produktmarken nutzen, stehen vor der Herausforderung, deren Positionierung in den verschiedenen Märkten aufeinander abzustimmen, um so Irritationen in den Zielgruppen vorzubeugen und Synergieeffekte ausnützen zu können. Während in der Literatur zur "nationalen" Kommunikationspolitik unter dem Begriff der Integrierten Kommunikation bzw. "Integrated Marketing Communications" bereits seit langem Ansatzpunkte zur Integration kommunikationspolitischer Aktivitäten aufgezeigt werden, wird diese Aufgabe im Schrifttum zur internationalen Kommunikationspolitik bisher nur rudimentär behandelt. Im vorliegenden Beitrag werden jene Einflussfaktoren herausgearbeitet, die im Rahmen der internationalen Positionierungsentscheidung zu berücksichtigen sind. Entsprechend der Ausgangssituation in den jeweiligen Ländermärkten spannt sich für international tätige Unternehmen ein Kontinuum an Positionierungsmöglichkeiten auf (strategische Integration), welche die Basis für die instrumentelle Integration kommunikationspolitischer Maßnahmen im Rahmen der operativen Umsetzung bilden.
