We draw a conceptual frame for the actual media evolutions from Romania regarding the topic of national education. This frame has two dimensions. The first one is disclosing a pattern in which news and debates about education are being delivered by the media to the public. A relatively wide range of elements are scrutinized: the issue of plagiarism, the issue of the very poor quality educational system and so on. The debate is focused upon the way in which medi a treats nowadays these topics. The second one uncovers is asking if the Romanian media is ready to take part to a collective effort in order to improve the status of national education. A perspective upon the cultural background of the subject is develope d in the end. We indicate some cultural elements which could be responsible for the media style of delivering the theme of education to public.
This paper tries to uncover some elements of what some authors claim to be a total disaster of the content and strategy of public communication carried out by Romanian authorities in the Higher Education System. The paper does not disclose a systematic empirical approach, but aims at revealing aspects concerning recent image crises at the highest level of the Romanian Education system. A brief analysis of the causes follows and the paper ends with some recommendations for improving the crisis management in the given area.
After an extended proliferation of the “Communication sciences” as a distinct line of study within Romanian Higher Education System which has been encountered for several years, today we must face and accept at least three things regarding this phenomenon. First, we have to admit that the academic educational content of such programs was, and still is far from reaching the expected targets for which it was, at least in theory, conceived. As evidences we mention the poor professional level of the students, and, on the other hand, a very low rate of integration of alumni within the specific market jobs. Also, a testimony of the failure is the low quality level of the Romanian public communication. Thirdly, we also must admit that this system of higher education did not succeed to carry out its own internal reforms since it is tainted by such phenomena as imposture, nepotism and group interests. This study attempts to unveil why the situation degenerated to such extent and to indicate what should be done in the near and medium future for the improvement of this situation.
This study is about science dissemination in its possible posture as a very specific Public Relations activity. We draw a brief historical perspective about the evolution of science from an isolated activity developed within small communities during the past historical times to the present. The study underlines the condition of science in modern times and especially its very pregnant visibility at the public sphere. The reasons and the causes for this situation are also described and discussed. The second part of the study is focused on the possibilities of science dissemination to become and to sustain a very particular type of PR activity for those agents who disseminate science to the level of the masses and on the public sphere in general. Some specific PR activities which are or could be involved in the activity of disseminating science are been also analyzed in this context. In the end the study, the specific condition of science in the age of mass communication is highlighted. This condition involves the concept of adaptability for any specific human activity to the demands of historical times in particular terms and conditions, and the fact that the present condition of science at the level of public sphere could be something temporary is stressed out.
