Stunting is a condition of the child's length or height according to his age compared to the WHO standard, the z-score is less than -2SD. Stunting is caused by multifactorial which can affect directly or indirectly and causes various adverse effects. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation of family and household factors on the incidence of stunting (especially sex of toddler, age of toddler, father's education, mother's education, mother's employment status, number of children, birth distance, family income, and mother's height) in three villages Sumberbaru Health Center Work Area of Jember. This type of research is observational analytic research with cross-sectional research design. A sample of 130 people who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The sampling technique uses purposive sampling technique. Bivariate analysis using chi-square test and multivariate analysis using binary logistic regression. The results of the bivariate analysis of this study showed p <0.05 on sex of toddler, number of children, family income, mother’s height, and p > 0.05 on age of toddler, father's education, mother's education, mother's employment status, birth distance. Multivariate analysis showed mother's height <147cm (p = 0,007; OR = 3,345), family income below UMK Jember (p = 0,045; OR = 2,344), and male sex (p = 0,044; OR = 0,456 ). Based on these results it can be concluded that the incidence of stunting is directly affected by mother's height <147cm, family income below UMK Jember, and male sex of boys. While indirectly affected by the number of children >2. Factors that did not affect the incidence of stunting were the age of the toddler, father's education, mother's education, mother's employment status, and birth distance. Mother's height <147cm is the most influencing factor.
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder with increasing mortality rate. Decrease in GLUT-4 levels was found in diabetics resulting in an increase in postprandial blood glucose levels. Various innovative treatment have been developed, one of them is exercise. Exercise is growing fast today, especially eccentric contraction based exercise that potentially increase GLUT-4 muscle’s level. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of eccentric activity on glucose transporter type 4 in gastrocnemius muscle of streptozotocin-induced diabetes mellitus mice. Diabetic mice were grouped randomly into 2 groups. One group was given single bout of eccentric excercise by downhill running on 10o degree decline treadmill and the other group was given eccentric activity by downhill running on 0o degree. The GLUT-4 muscle’s level were measured after treadmill. Data obtained from each group were then analyzed using independent t-test, significant results were found (p<0.05). The conclusion of this study is single bout eccentric downhill running activity with 10o angel increases the levels of GLUT-4 muscles. Key words: Glucose Transporter Type 4, eccentric, Diabetes Mellitus, Muscle
Liver cancer, predominantly Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC), is a tumor that originates from hepatocytes and is clinically progressive. In Indonesia, according to the Ministry of Health in 2019, liver cancer is the second most common cancer in men, amounting to 12.4 per 100,000 population with an average death rate of 7.6 per 100,000 population. There are very few studies on HCC in RSD dr. Soebandi Jember. This study aims to determine the characteristics and factors that can be predictors of death in HCC patients. This study uses an observational analytic research type with a case-control research design. The data of this study used secondary data from the medical records of HCC patients at RSD dr. Soebandi Jember, as well as primary data in the form of telephone interviews. The results of this study with a total of 72 samples showed that there was a significant difference between liver cirrhosis and HCC patient mortality within 90 days (p = 0.005), and could be used as a predictor of HCC mortality (OR = 17.15; 95% CI = 1.532-192.017). Keywords: HCC, predictors of death, HCC mortality
Swimming athletes compete by how fast they can swim at a certain distance. One of the most important things that affect the swimming speed was the muscle strength of the arms and legs. The swimming speed can be increased by doing the physical exercise that can affect the arms and legs muscles which was called overhead dumbbell squat (ODS) exercise. The purpose of this study was to find out if there was an effect of ODS on increased breaststroke swimming speed of Tirta Palm Swimming Club members. This study was an experimental study with one group pretest-posttest design that was implemented for a month about 16-20 years old that met the qualifications of inclusion and did the ODS exercise thrice a week for 4 weeks. The duration of each exercise was 10 repetitions, 6 sets, and breaks for a minute in each set. The result showed that the average pretest swimming speed was 67,84 seconds and the post-test was 59,07 seconds. The analysis result of paired sample t-test showed a value p0,001, so there was a significant difference between pretest and posttest. It could be concluded that overhead dumbbell squat exercises could enhance the swimming speed of Tirta Palm Swimming Club members.
