Tempurung, sebagai sisa pengolahan buah kelapa, memiliki karakter yang unik, antara lain kuat, keras, bersifat lengkung, dan motif permukaan yang khas. Potensi dan karakter unik tersebut menyebabkan tempurung kelapa dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan baku kerajinan. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui karakter tempurung kelapa dan pemanfaatannya, serta mencari alternatif teknik pengolahan tempurung. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah eksperimentasi material dan karakteristik tempurung kelapa sebagai bahan baku kerajinan. Dalam penelitian ini dilakukan berbagai eksperimen, yaitu eksperimen pemanfaatan tempurung berdasarkan teknik-teknik yang telah umum dilakukan, eksperimen pewarnaan permukaan tempurung, eksperimen pelunakan dan pembentukan kembali tempurung dengan senyawa basa, serta eksperimen bentuk mengacu pada karakter unik tempurung yang diperoleh dari hasil penelitian. Berdasarkan evaluasi yang telah dilakukan, diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa pemanfaatan tempurung kelapa sebagai bahan baku kerajinan dengan teknik pelunakan menghasilkan produk yang kurang memperlihatkan karakter visual dan dinilai paling tidak alami dibandingkan teknik lain. Namun di sisi lain, produk yang menggunakan teknik pelunakan pun dipandang sebagai produk yang paling sesuai dengan gaya kekinian (kontemporer) dan memiliki keunikan paling tinggi. Hal-hal tersebut menjadikan produk dengan teknik pelunakan dianggap paling menarik dan memiliki potensi yang besar untuk dikembangkan menjadi berbagai produk kerajinan lainnya. Batik is a traditional textile art of Indonesia, in which through its appearance we may excerpt the customs, traditional values, way of life, spiritual meanings, and cultural characteristics of Indonesian people. Previous researches on batik have-for the most part-uncovered and elaborated batik as a solely artifact of art, distancing its relation with those who use it. As results, most of batik research tends to frame batik as an object of preservation and do not elaborate more on the context of batik as an object of perception (of users) or batik as an object of consumption. To address this issue, the paper explores perceptual identification of batik users using semantic differential method, evaluating actual users' perception on the element of colors applied on clothes of West Javanese batik as object of study. The obtained data will be crossreferenced to identify gender and subject-experience variables. The implication of the findings for the creative process and marketability of batik will be discussed, in hoping to gain applicable knowledge for the preservation as well as new development of West Javanese batik design.
The “Kampus Merdeka” or “Freedom Campus” policy from the Indonesian Ministry of Education gives students the freedom to participate in learning activities outside their study program. Learning resources can be obtained from online-based learning. One online learning resource is MOOC (Massive Online Open Course), which has gained massive participation. Good quality learning materials can help students construct their knowledge. Indonesian MOOC providers have developed their learning materials, but they are still not optimal in quality. This study aims to analyze the implementation of design and multimedia principles on Indonesian MOOC’s learning materials. The research used a quantitative strategy with the data collection method of visual observation of the IndonesiaX materials compared to those of edX, Udemy, and Coursera materials. Data analysis was based on the visual analysis of 9 design principles and 12 multimedia learning principles. In this research, the findings reveal that the design consistency and icon representation principles are yet to have an optimal grade. The same conditions are also found in implementing the multimedia principles of coherence, redundancy, and modality. The findings in this study are expected to be a consideration for MOOC providers in designing better online learning materials.
This study intends to investigate whether there are differences in website interface characteristics among multiracial website users using Marcus's user interface components approach where four components of design; metaphors, mental models, navigation and appearance are matched with Hofstede's cultural dimensions. The results are presented and discussed in this paper.
Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi pengaruh tampilan visual website e-learning terhadap motivasi belajar. Objek penelitiannya adalah website ilmukomputer.com dan pendidikan.ws yang memiliki tingkat interaktivitas yang berbeda sebagai website e-learning. Analisis secara kualitatif terhadap tampilan visual kedua website menunjukkan bahwa tingkat kompleksitas yang dimiliki oleh sebuah website e-learning mempengaruhi penyajian informasi kepada para pembelajarnya. Pembelajaran secara visual membantu pembelajar dalam belajar dan materi pelajaran yang disampaikan lebih memikat untuk dipelajari. 33,5% motivasi belajar dipengaruhi langsung oleh visual. Oleh karena itu, penekanan terhadap penyusunan visualisasi informasi dan instruksi pelajaran merupakan hal yang harus dilakukan dalam membangun sebuah website e-learning. Kata kunci: e-learning; motivasi; penyajian informasi; tampilan visual; website.Abstract. This research attempts to identify the influence of visuals of e-learning websites on learning motivation. The investigated object is e-learning sites of ilmukomputer.com and pendidikan.ws, which presents differences of interactivity. Results of investigation on the visual appearance of both websites indicate that level of complexity of an e-learning website affects the presentation of information for learners. The presented visuals assist learners to dwelve into the subjects, visuals directly influence 33.5% of learners' motivation. Therefore, one should emphasize visual preparation of information and instruction design when creating an e-learning website.
